Hi guys,

I havent owned my VR4 for long and am still learning more and more about this amazing car, and was reading it up on wikipedia when I saw this: "The final VR-4 was introduced in 1996... The car was now capable of over 150 mph (240 km/h) when derestricted". So, does the car have a horsepower restrictor in it or something? Is it easy/safe to remove? If so, is it best to take it out or leave it alone?

Thanks!

It's just a speed limiter, at about 190, can get a tune to solve this, or cut the speed wire to the ecu, but that'll give you a fault code

In Japan, all cars are limited to 112mph (180kph) from the factory.

The quick (and wrong) way to remove this is to cut the speed input wire to the engine ECU, but you then affect other things.

The speed limiter can be "removed" (or more correctly, raised) to a level that you won't reach, so it effectively becomes derestricted.

It is a very simple ecu setting modification and can be done on any of the VR4 ecu's if you have the correct cable and software.
