On the VR4 ECU Pinout, Connector 3 - Pin 9 is labelled as 'ground'. Does anybody know where this cable goes? I'm asking as on my FTO loom it is an empty connector with no cable in there and i'm wondering whether I should have put a cable into here and fixed it to ground or whether its a ground produced from the ECU and feeding somewhere else .... if that makes sense

Cheers

I the pin is marked as GND then it will be a pin that is required to be connected to a chassis GND.

have you seen the kitty ecu thread that has the complete engine ECU pin out in it, i think foxdie did a similar thread in conjection with is tuning threads.

Here is a link to all the ecu pinout kitty vr4 did
http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/search.php?searchid=6229050

here is foxdie's
http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?59222-Definitive-EFI-ECU-Pinout-(KS-Mod-friendly)&highlight=ecu+pinout

It looks like that connector 3 pin 9 is the main GND for the ECU, so i would say it is deffinitely needed.

here is some bonus info for you, if you put an inline switch on connetor 4 pin 10 (backup power 12V constant), with the ignition off you can flick the switch and brack the battery backup to ECU and you can do a error code reset without having to disconnect the battery which is a great thing to have if you have got an auto gearbox. just rest the engine ecu and not the autobox ecu and keep the silky smooth gear shifts while still resetting the stored error codes.

if you have a manual gear box it it is not so useful, but an auto very useful.

Cheers Dave, i cant open the kitty one, it says "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms". The Foxdie one worked though, some great info on there, much more in depth than the standard pinout I worked from! ... wish i had this when I did the wiring last year.

Looking at the pinout on Foxdie's thread Connector 3 Pin 9 says for a PFL manual (which my ECU is) the connection isn't used, only seems to be something thats used for the Autos.

Good tip for the ECU reset, i have a manual but its still useful to know  ... i'm having to do this regular recently to clear codes

Yep from the Pinout for the manual the main ground for a manual ecu config is connector 4 pin 21 but for a auto gear box this pin is used for the auto selector.

This does not see right to me but that is the way it has been written down in the pin out.
I will cross check this with kitty vr4 pin outs.

By the way if you do an advance search user kitty vr4 and key words ecu Pinout you will find engine ecu, abs ecu, at ecu, plus more.
