is it just not activating of does it try and work and something stops it.
just wondering if the lock barrel is seized, can you put the key in the lock and open the door?
normally you should be able to feel if the motor is trying to activate the door lock by putting your hand on the door skin. if the motor is felt activating and the lock is not moving then the link bars between the motor and barrel might be disconnected.

No it's just weak, if I've just driven it and it's warm it works ok but from cold it doesn't work. Like when I unlock it at the weekend it won't work I have to use the key, then go somewhere come back to it it works ok

This looks to me like electric window motor with cables cut off of the mechanism arm.

It was behind the internal handle/lock of the door so just took a guess :)
