Well this guy (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18230&item=4535426717&rd=1) thinks he has!

Doesn't it just p you off when some bloke talks a load of **** in his advert? Makes you wonder about the rest of the car :inquisiti

1977 model too :rolleyes3

(oops - hope it's not a member's car!)

I gotta get me one of those de-cat pipes that adds 30bhp! :lipsrseal

Heh - this has been spotted already. If I was feeling less apathetic I'd find the thread!

I wondered about the 50 bhp as well. Surely if the tail pipe is more than 5" then it will be more like 70?! :rolleyes4

Doesn't flowing the exaust increase what the turbos will boost to? (with standard internal wastgates)

What boost would you have to be running to get 50bhp over stock?

Well on my previous VR4 (which was a 260Ps version) I had a HKS Super Drager, de-cat, HKS SPF induction and the boost running around 0.95 and still only recorded 303 bhp on a rolling road..........the guy is talking bo**ocks

Ok, well 260ps = 256.4bhp (if you want to get technical ) thats an additional 46.6bhp (assuming with boost increase and decat (I assume DBA decat) and not at all far off the lower of the "around 305/310" figure quoted.

Reading the article, it does indicate a full exaust system(manifolds back), which would be much more effective than a simple de-cat at raising hp. The statement about retaining stock boost is total BS at this point though, as the increased flow will increase boost. The real question is just HOW much you get out of a FULL exaust system without interfering with the stock boost control.

Sure, he might be exagerating somewhat, but I think you guys might just be getting a bit over-zelous about this... besides, most people exagerate when selling their vehicle (even the manufacturers) or even boasting of performance figures.

Well, thats just my opinion...

As Kenneth said - he may stretching it a bit, but may not that far out....maybe
290ish ?? Did notice no heat sheild for the HKS green mushroom :) that's the most effective way of putting WARM air into his intake!!

Pound for pound the 'stage 1' changes are the most effective for gains are they not?? I always been lead to believe that to be the case on any car....................maybe i've been wrong all these years !!!!!!????

Well, I thought I'd ask if there was any hard evidence of this increase, or just 'pick a nice figure out of the air':

"Wow mate - you gained 50 BHP on your VR4 just with an intake and exhaust mod??!! Do you have a dyno readout to prove this? Please pop over to www.clubvr4.com and tell us all about it!"

Not my figures - I was told by Andy Urwin (the performance car specialist garage which services my car) that the induction kit and the big bore exhaust would give about 10BHP on a 4 cylinder car, but on a turbo V6 it gives about 25. He also estimated 20BHP with the de-cat pipe. I certainly noticed the difference immediately after the de-cat pipe was fitted - low down torque was increased and the general "grunt" even better than before.
Seem reasonable? Still seems a bit ambitious to me. However, as SM says, from a distance it does look like a nice car - alloys not to my taste though. Wonder what the reserve is.

His buy now price is £7500 so it must be that or somewhere in the region of offers if he gets no bids :rolleyes4 I might put a £5000 opening bid and see what his move is /yes

Do you reckon he'd take part exchange  and do you think I could handle all that extra hp :rolleyes4

Apart from the howl and the occasional back fire pop... :inquisiti :uhoh2:
Fitting the de-cat felt a bit like panel filter upgrade... more urgent under throttle response and revvy

Ahhh yes, sorry, did notice one difference.... An increase in the amount of car alarms set off in multistorey carparks.... :evil2:

It does seem a reasonable estamate, but as i'm still learning about the VR4 I cant comment on these engines. However with my previous car (200sx) a filter, exhaust and decat would see a rise of 30-50bhp. Andy Urwin has a good reputation with the Cosworth people and i've had my previous car serviced and put on the rollers, he did seem to know what he was on about.
