Now Mr BDA, OK so it's taken a long time, but today I actually had a little time to spare. So what should I do I thought. I Know, I have that shiny tube in my wardrobe that you so kindly made!! So with a little help from some gas to heat the old nuts(!) I found a better place to store it; under my car. Threw in a K&N as well just for the hell of it. The result? uses a lot more fuel. Why? Coz I can't resist flooring it and letting it rev so freely!! Goes like stink when pushed and sounds lovely if you have the windows down. Not noisy but just that V6 howl. So to sum up - well woth it. Thank you Mr BDA!!

Was that because of the extra power or the extra noise?

As I drove round yesterday, I was thinking.... I must post up a message
about the difference the de cat makes... Vee man beat me to it

The revving is much more zingy n responsive but the howl is just crazy...

2nd and 3rd holding the car at about 3.5k revs.....the resonance/ frequency sounds so sweet :leer: ,,,,, then bury the loud pedal (literally) and it launches like its accelerating from rest in 1st!!!

Keep holding for about 20 seconds back of the throttle and you get this mad pop bang.... scares all the crows from the treetops (just like in worzel gummidge - for those old enough to remember that programme)

Cheers BDA

Kieran... its a quick change to test it out... go on... see if you can notice the difference

I have to drive slowly and carefully up and down my road tho.. sounds loud from cold /yes :embarasse

EDIT: I know its not strictly a V6 24 mod as thread says but.. :D

Yep K, I could be in the same boat about some mods to this one, but as I said I actually had some spare time, and of course the pipe was just sitting here. But I do wish I'd fitted it earlier(must have had it about 6months or more.) It certainly does improve in the the higher revs. Torque steer is much more apparent in 3rd when cimbing over 3.5 - 4.0K and just keeps pulling.
With the original silencer still at the back - the noise is not hugely louder - just nicer.
Peace of pi$$ to fit - May need a little heat on the old bolts or nuts to undo 'em.

is this with a standard exhaust system form cat back or an after market exhaust??

Welcome to the world of the V6-24!! Is flooring it in 1st a total no-no for you too (unless you want to shred your tyres)? :rolleyes4 :rolleyes4 /yes

In the leggerz, this is with, what I believe to be, standard exhaust system with Ralliart muffler ...

I could never spin wheels in my V6 24... must've been the TCL :inquisiti or more likely the autobox /yes

Traction control does help. Sorry that's a steady right foot!! But as long as you just get it rolling, then away you go. But to be fair always been like that.

kieran, it was definatly the power and speed at which i made him look silly by pulling away
pezza , mine'll spin its t!ts off mind you i doesn't have tc
the vee, i thought it was my tyres with the torque steer but at least its not just mine then

YES
It's going on tomorrow all being well. I hope also to find a MAF adapter and sort out the HKS Super Power Flow I've had lying around for ages too!!

Well well well.... Impressive.

Not too sure about power yet... In 1st and 2nd, it perhaps feels slightly less powerful? However, once into third, it feels more 'free'. My apexi RSM reckons max power is 169bhp at 5850 rpm. It's normally between 161-167 depending on road conditions.. I shall update with more info as I've only just reset the ECU, I'm on 95RON at the moment, and I've only been on a short blast.

The biggest, most pleasing and most surprising change is the exhaust note. As you know, I've got the famous 4th-hand Fujitsubo Legalis on my car. Now, when I originally had it fitted, it was better than the standard one but still quite muted. Around 2250rpm, it also resonated somewhat, which could be irksome on a long journey.

Now the de-cat is on, all that has changed. The idle is fractionally louder, and the tone is deeper and slghtly more 'gruff', though this may well be because the ECU is still going "Eh? I've forgotten everything!". When you rev the car, the gruffness gets better - there's more of a burble, whereas before, if the car was below 3000 rpm, it sounded more like a standard exhaust with a blowing joint.

When you're underway, the change is even more surprising. With a light throttle, the exhaust sounds *quieter* than before (though this is more easily altered when you blip the throttle) and the resonance is greatly reduced - no longer does the cabin boom when you're around 50/60ish on a part throttle.

On full throttle, the extra gasflow really allows the Fujitsubo to make it's presence felt. It's far closer to the sound a standard (catted) VR-4 would make with one of them on, though it's smoother and not as loud in the car (I am using the fujitsubo website's sound catalog as my comparrison). It feels 'right' - The 'Noisy' exhaust that we all appreciate is there when you want it, but otherwise it keeps incognito and doesn't draw attention.

I have yet to put on the Super Power Flow, as I can't find a retaier (other than the web) that sells the correct MAF adapter that I need.

I shall report more on the power question when the engine has 'settled' a bit.

Yes, Dave, it's very good. The sole criticisim I have is that the pipe was about ~5mm too short, so we had to hoik the tail-section of the exhaust back a bit, which has made my tailpipe look even more like it's on the p1ss - But I am plotting more meddling in this area now, so I'm not too worried. :smug:

Based on the results of fitting the de-cat, I would advise any V6-24 owners who are thinking of a custom exhaust to tread carefully. Fitting a less restrictive backbox helped all round, but now with the de-cat in too, I'm pretty sure that the torque curve has moved slightly - It does feel like it's lost something at low revs, but it's certainly gained something at the top. I am still fancying a set of 'Duels' but If I do, I think I will reduce the pipe diameter in order to keep some delta pressure in the system.

Having set my CAMP to monitor things, I notice on the readout graphs that the ECU isn't flowing more fuel at any point, despite there being less pumping losses through the cat - Mind you, it's still sucking through the standard Mitsubishi Induction system, so that's not really surprising.

Especially once I've fitted the super power flow, I think a Simple Fuel controller plus a Air/Knock sensor may be next, so that I can 'trim' the injectors to ensure that enough juice is flowing. :scholar:

Hopefully, if our friends turn up next weekend, I'll have someone to help me fit the suspension too. Then I'll have a chassis that's more capable of dealing with extra power... The brakes generate more than 2.5x the reverse-power of the engine (In a 'stand on the brakes' situation, my Apexi recorded a -343bhp loss power), so I'm happy with that setup, and once the car is better planted to the road, I shall be ready!

Interesting findings,K, a little surprised on your 1st and 2nd gears. Mine just seems more eager right the way through. Thought I might lose a little torque with the freed up flow, but pulling away at 750 revs in 4 th gear in a slow moving traffic jam was smooth and easy. (lazy bu&&er I Am!!! No I Don't want a tiptronic :rolleyes4 )

Interesting reading there Kieran...

I did not fit a de-cat to the V6 - 24 so not sure how it would've changed my car..
the leggerz has behaved like Vee's car.. esp in eagerness to rev.. with the schweet howl at 3k revs

It sounds as if BDAs De-cat has made you think twice about selling your car especially as you are going to mod further with induction kit etc???
