View Full Version : Clearing SRS (Airbag) Fault Codes

All fault codes can be easily read using simply a small length of wire (or paperclip!) using the "flashy dash" technique (https://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?45151-Reading-the-VR-4-s-Diagnostic-Codes)

Most fault codes, once fixed, will either clear themselves, or can be cleared from the ECU's memory simply by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes.

SRS (Airbag) faults, however, will not clear simply by disconnecting the battery, even once the original fault has been fixed, and require special hardware/software to do so.

Here is a list of devices we know will work:

Mitsubishi MUT-II and MUT-III
Snap-On Solus
Bluepoint G-Scan
Launch X431 Pro 3

If you need your SRS codes reset, ask your local garage if they have any of the above equipment.

Unfortunately, the following do not work:

Launch EasyDiag 2.0 (with XPro software)

If you know of any more tools that need adding to the list which definitely clear SRS fault codes (also useful are those which do not), please let us know!

Started a list of scanners which we know do *not* work, as this is also useful to know.

I have an issue with an SRS fault code due to swapping the interior in my V6. The old cloth interior had side airbags and a plug for under the seat. The leather I installed has no such airbags and therefore no underseat connector, which brings up an SRS error on the dash. Would getting the right equipment to delete the code solve my problem?

To need to both resolve the issue, then clear the fault codes.

The issue can be "resolved" (read masked) by fitting a resistor where the missing airbag should be.

Yes I believe he does have a MUT-III, however it's also useful to be able to find somewhere local who has a bit of kit that will do the job :)

Also, would I have to put one on each side of the connection, so two per seat or just stretch one across the terminal?

Cheers!

Unless anyone knows better, google suggests resistors in the range 2.2-3.3 ohm 1/4 watt. perhaps start with a 10 ohm, and work down. I'm not sure if you need a MUT to clear the srs codes once the "fault" is fixed, or if they self clear / clear on battery off.
