Got the new system fitted today - big thanks to MIJ Performance in Walsall. Very professional, very friendly, very helpful, and most imprtantly a very very good job.
They also slightly offset the backbox as I wanted it coming out at a slight angle, and the quality of fitting and placement under the car is very good

2.5" Stainless Steel System in TD304 steel, Titanium backbox with removable baffle. Handbuilt.

It sounds awesome. Fairly quiet on tickover, and when cruising, but when you floor it it sounds wicked.

I wouldn't have done it yet had my backbox not have fallen off last weekend (would never have justified that to the missus!) - but needs must ;)

When you do get it done, I would really recommend MIJ Performance - good prices, good setup - and Jay there has a pretty awesome Skyline (915BHP when he has the engine finished next week apparently!). I booked in for first thing this morning, as I wanted to be back for this afternoon. Was there just before 9, when they opened - car in workshop at 8.55!

After consulting me on what I wanted, exactly, and listening to their advice, and choosing the backbox, the work started and I sat in reception watching a DVD! They consulted me all the way through the work, and I was free to walk into worksho at any time to have a look. Work was completed at 11.30, car left up on ramps for me to inspect, and I was asked if I was happy, or if anything wanted changing.

And for 400 notes, what more could you ask?

Silly question time.....but why is the tip that colour - did you ask for it ?

It was one of their new ones with the removable baffle, and the tip is titanium and it's meant to be like that.
I thought it was unusual, and suits the colour of the car. In fact on the car, the reflection of the indigo blue in it looks pretty cool.

Sulli, when are you going to post some pictures of your car looking anything other than pristine - even your drive is imaculate. I'm starting to think of you as CVR4s very own Howard Hughes, shuffling around with tissue boxes on your feet, polishing anything that doesn't move! :d

The car and exhaust look great, you must be really pleased at your purchase.

Steve

PS. If Sulli is HH then I'd be Swampy /help

cheers, I think.
The drive - well that's my mum and dads. Though my block paving is OK too - I laid it last year
I wash it every couple of weeks - just jetwash, shampoo and shammy - only takes an hour :). Luckily it was Diamond Brited last year, and after I got it I spent 3-4 hours doing a 2 stage Meguairs thing, including a Carnuba wax.
I can't spend too much time on it - have a little daughter, work full time, and not allowed to :embarasse
Thanks anyway ;)

When we get to meet up you'll have to spare me 5mins to coach me in proper car care! I'm a touch envious.

your exhaust looks pukker and the tip def goes with the colour of the car and as for the other pics of the motor :pimp2: i just needed to put me shades on due to the gleaming paintwork. Your motor is the boll--ks
Few more questions, is your exhaust from the cat back ?

I've heard that the titanium tips glow when they're hot. Have you seen this?

Just reminiscing, and can you believe the new owner has replaced the decat with the cat, and changed the backbox?

I can - I've done the same - De-Cat didn't seem to make much difference to my VR-4. And the backbox was a standard one, so that had to go! /yes

I think the decat released a lot more power on mine, let it breath a lot easier, and the way they built the exhaust I also gained low end torque. Replacing a standard backbox is understandable - but my purple end was pretty unique, if a bit lary :-policema
And yes Pezza, the sound was awesome - shame the new owner Andy let his missus rule the roost /pan

Andy ;) :)

It's weird with these cars - they all seem to react differently. I do notice a loss when the hammer is down and the revs are high - It feels 'pinned back', but on part throttle and low down, my car's tractability is much better. Curious! :inquisiti

The standard backbox was replaced with the ralliart one - so to be honest with you Sulli, it's not much different to the standard box, other than the lovely polished tailpipe and a slightly more warbly idle. /yes

Looks good and nice to hear another positive report of a fitting centre. Good price too

Yeah, yeah, yeah, the cat is back on, the new backbox is just as quiet as standard, but the VR4 is used every day, and needs to be quick.. and quiet.
Motorways are now effortless, no droning at certain rpms, and the kids'll sleep easier in the back.
Still got a big diameter tailpipe on it anyway :pimp2:
As far as noisy exhausts go, they don't release much more power being noisy, and back pressure ie silencing sometimes HELPS power, admittedly not so sure about that with two turbos to spool up tho'.
True, the cat restricts flow, and probably makes 5 to 10bhp difference, but in a blind test, the power difference wouldn't be that noticeable, instant pickup when you floor it is possibly reduced, but it's worth it to stay legal.
Different things for different people - you pays your money etc.
Now if you want sound, and power...

This was 300bhp of TVR-tuned Rover engine, with a straight thru (ie no) silencer. Could do car alarms from 10 yards away. Music, pure music. Until the lamppost hit it anyway.

Just reminiscing eh? Do you miss the VR4, or do the LCR and the A6 make up for it?
Keep going misty-eyed over a couple of my old cars, wish I had the space (and £££) to keep 'em!

My record with car alarms was 13 car widths away once in a supermarket car park, as well as setting off 12 alarms in 8km of driving :D
