I am soon purchasing a VR4. However I am 19 and insurance isn't cheap. Can anyone recommend a cheaper insurance provider they've used. So far the cheapest quote ive had is £1950 with the exhaust declared or £1750 if I put a standard exhaust on.

Try classic car insurance, I insured our second Legnum for on miss with 0 NCB for £240 a year company called lancaster insurance, and on top of that i got 10% cash back from quidco.

Welcome to the forum.

try going for limited mileage and adding a parent onto the insurance. TBH, that quote isn't that bad for someone of your age and driving experience.

Those figures are with both parents as named drivers. without an named drivers it would have been £2700. So it has come down a fair bit.

I was surprised at how cheap the quote was to begin with. so at £1950 with the exhaust declared, im pretty happy. If I cant find any cheaper then im happy to pay that much for it.

George, I am an old git but when i have used compare the market and such sites where you just enter the registration number i started getting quite low quotes. Im not convinced they know what it is but ive done what i can, it just comes up as a 2500cc Galant like it says on the V5.....

You can try Adrian Flux or Sky Insurance as they are specialist brokers with extensive experience of dealing with imports and VR-4s.

Despite what the V5 says, always clarify with the insurer that they understand what model of car it is. Some imports don't get registered exactly right and that can result in them being shown as something on the V5 that they are not. If you have obtained insurance as a result of this, it's entirely possible that in the event of a claim, it will be invalidated. Our RVR is registered as an auto Sports Gear, rather than a manual Hyper Sports Gear R, which is half the power of what it actually has! I have always ensured that the insurer know which model it is as the underwriters will look for anything to reduce their liability in the event of a big claim!
