The Japanese Performance Show run in association with "Japanese Performance" magazine is confirmed for Sunday Oct 12th is open to all makes and models of Japanese cars and provides a great opportunity for drivers to get a taste of racing down the famous drag strip. General admission is only £10 - you don't need any special modifications or a race licence simply present a valid national driving licence on the day and £12 will buy you 3 full runs on the strip. Every driver will receive a personal performance print-out after every run so you'll be able to keep tabs on how well you're doing. Whether you want to have a go or just turn up to watch your mates it's great value and great fun!

A "Top 20" best of show Japanese cars will be invited into an exclusive display area so if you feel your is top notch and worthy of a place send details of your vehicle to the show organisers in advance info@santapod.com. Found this some rules at Santa Pod
http://www.santapod.com/

NB: Don't forget your driving licence! Seat belt is mandatory! Helmets required for RWYB bikes and open top cars and vehicles doing 100 mph or more at the finish line.

But a few of my mates have done this and no one actually asked to see a Crash Helmet
Also the normal Run what you brung meetings cots
----------------------------------------------------------
The only thing you need to go drag racing at the famous Santa Pod Raceway is a valid UK driving licence, £9 for admission and a £13 signing-on fee. You'll be entitled to unlimited runs or as many as your nerves will allow! After each run you'll receive a personal performance print-out showing your reaction times to the start lights, 60', 330', 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile times, and top speed. If you really get hooked you could then apply for a competition licence and enter a street class at a proper race meeting because, don't forget, the RWYB days are how most of the professional racers get started

:D "d-day"

we've been talking about this since Japfest.. not sure who else is gonna drag it, but who ever isnt, needs to record it... not often you see two vr-4s heading off down a drag strip in the UK :D

Great response so far !:D

Nick with regards to your post - the cost for this show is £9 per person entrance fee INSERT INTO post VALUES (if we book in advance) and £12 for THREE runs on the drag if wanted.

Wonder if you have to have all three runs yourself ? Have to look into that one but at the moment I am up for a run or three:D

You never know - but Shaz says not a bloody chance hehehehe!

However, I have heard some members may have a small advantage when the time comes but all a little hush hush for now INSERT INTO post VALUES (not me btw)

Brind
29-07-2003, 09:49 PM
Okay own up, who is going for Nitrous? :nono: am I right?

I may try that trick but at lower revs mind you, I don't know if I could get my left foot off the brake fast enough.. could be something you have to practice at.

BraindG

Simon
29-07-2003, 10:09 PM
I tried it!!!!!!!!!! All i got was revs....then acceleration and a smell of buring brake pads, engine oil and the smell filled the cabin for ages. :nono: Got a "jerk" at the start but cant say it helped!!!!! That was at 3,000rpm....how about pulling the lever back from neutral instead of holding the brake:Ponder:

Simon
29-07-2003, 10:10 PM
Or would this drop the transmission out of the car:Ponder:

Most likely, it certainly doesn't sound like a good idea, and you still have to put your foot on the brake to engage the lever.

Autos don't have clutches.

Simon
29-07-2003, 10:14 PM
i dont have a third pedal....we couldn't afford it:Cry1: if i buy one...or put one in from a Fiat Punto would this help?:Ponder:

Simon
29-07-2003, 10:19 PM
put your car in drive...come to a stop put it in Neutral take feet of pedals and then pull back .....it goes!!!! you can put it in neutral while going at 50mph as well....it goes in and out easily but i guess trying a "take off" with high revs isn't a good idea

0-90 mph once:D

Brind
29-07-2003, 10:29 PM
Oh right...:) never tried.
High revs may be dodgy though like you say.

I did a six second 0-60 recently by holding the brake to 3000 rpm and unloading it with foot to the floor. I was slightly sh**ting it that my autobox might crunch or something but it didnt.

You mentioned that at JAE, how did you measure the amount?

LOMY
29-07-2003, 11:21 PM
Simply by volume. For 5/95% mix: for every 950 cc fuel 50 cc Meth. Round it off to 50cc/litre but make sure you have some fuel already in to take up the slack. Do this for a couple of tanks and you get a good mix. I havnt run the car over long periods with Meth, just occasionally at 5% and the difference is addictive. The whole engine seemes to become racier and spins up quick right through the range. Must affect the ECU a bit too because it always responds quicker after when back on pure Opti. You can buy it in most car parts shops under various brand names but its just Methanol INSERT INTO post VALUES (Dragster Fuel). S'not cheap though. We might be able to buy some by the gallon at SantaPod.

Not in the small ratios we are talking about INSERT INTO post VALUES (i.e.5% ish). Basically it is just a bit more unstable than petrol and burns hotter. Result is an effective increase in Octane rating. If the cooling system can cope with the extra heat then it should be OK. I wouldnt put a higher concentration in without further investigation though. I'm looking into it now.

Methanol in the tank! Thats a new one on me...:)

Sounds a bit manic! Does burning hotter not mean more chance of damage?

Whats the chemical make up of Methanol - does it have a dampening effect like nitrous? Or is it purely bigger explosion?

Ive located a brand new gazebo 3m x 3m INSERT INTO post VALUES (can borrow for future events) ready for the sun....or rain! Just trying to locate three side panels for it. P.S check out any local car accessories shop and look for the fuel additives...one for £3.50 'ish claims to raise super unleaded by 20 points! INSERT INTO post VALUES (not sure exactly) but is also road use legal, Anyone tried it? i guess not as "good" as the above suggestions....although someone i know with a race cart told me to try airline fuel!!!!!WTF!!! Have you ever tried getting a ladder long enough to prop up against the side of a plane and with a hose pipe, sucking the fuel out! Its bloody difficult:p

Kieran
10-08-2003, 09:09 PM
Hmmm! Never been to a meet before, but it sounds good - put me down please:)

However, I won't bother with the raceway - I think the Galant would be a bit out of it's depth... plus my other half will be with me!:nono: :argue:

So, what's the plan? What time are we meeting, have we got our own club area, what's the average day involve, etc?

Thanks!

Spirit
10-08-2003, 10:01 PM
Kieran - I have added you to the list and will try and answer some on your questions.

Firstly, as I am sure you can appreciate this is a VR4 club. Whilst I welcome all Galant owners to the Club when it comes to showdays it may be necessary for you to give up your place for a VR4 if required. However, at the two previous shows we have attended as a club we have not reached 20 on the day so do not panic.

With regards to the day itself, well we now have our own Events Co-ordinator INSERT INTO post VALUES (Lisa) who will fine tune the day so to speak. As you will see we come from all over the country so some of us will travel up the day before and stay overnight and some will travel on the day. The likelihood is that we will arrange to meet outside of Santa Pod and travel in convoy to the venue. And yes we have our own Club stand booked.

All I can say is keep an eye out on the forums for more specifics nearer the time.

Pete

I totally understand that VR-4s take priority - I would have been surprised to read otherwise!

Looking forward to it, and I'll keep watching the boards for further information.
