Long story short: I've been after a Galant vr4 for absolutely ages but have never had the funds to either buy one and fix or be able to afford some of the ridiculous asking prices for these cars in most cases(typical I'm selling it but I want to buy 2 to replace the one I just sold)my budget isn't house deposit size, This car has been a long sought after dream of my dads and he has just never had the technical knowhow to look deep enough on the internet(limited to Facebook where there is mostly dodgy cars with off coloured panels that have been SORN for 7years without explanation) and with all that's been going on lately he has found himself paying off bills and sudden expenses so I've joined this forum in an attempt to make trying to find one to buy all that much easier as I can see you people are a helpful bunch and hopefully within the distant future you'll help me say thankyou to my dad for putting up with the family and some of the stuff we have put him through he will hate me for doing it but if that makes him smile it'll be worth it to me.

Hi and welcome!

Unfortunately for you, the prices seem to be going up at the moment - even dodgy ones are fetching reasonable money!

That said, even a fresh import off the boat from Japan is still around £7-8k, and what you get for that price, is astonishing! One of the best cars made, in my humble opinion! (So much so, that I'm currently driving a 2010 Audi S4 Avant, and I'll be chopping that in as soon as I get my Legnum back on the road!)

I wish you luck in your search for a VR-4!

The resources and advice available here outweigh that found anywhere else on the internet - especially Facebook!

any car you view look for rust very carefully. strut tops visible rust under bonnet bubbling along the front seam? - nope. walk away unless its *cheap*
rear subframe? check its all solid.
Sills same deal.

good maintenance record is advised, but mistreatment is easily spotted with heavy varnish under oil cap, questionable mods etc.
check for leaking fluids all the way back, beware "broken" bulbs in the dash that are hiding a failed AYC pump or similar

Good luck.

Hello!

Definitely better advice on here than on failbook. We are good armchair shoppers, so if you find one you like the look of then post it up and we'll dissect it. Whereabouts in Worcestershire are you?

I'm literally in Worcester but I'm willing to travel to most parts of the country provided the images provided give me enough cause to believe it might be worth my time and if the price isn't what people want them to be worth and instead what they are genuinely worth and obviously not rusted to hell. I've seen a few nice Legnums but if I can get a hold of a Galant that hasn't been neglected most of its life id be extremely happy but I imagine a lot of people would jump on that before I even found out it existed.

Well, there's a couple of us in Redditch that may be willing to help have a look if you find one that needs checking out.
