I was contacted this afternoon by Farndon Engineering in Coventry as I have had stuff made by them in the past. We were chatting away and and they asked if there was anything that they could quote me for at the moment and I said that some members of Club VR4 were looking into getting engine bits made. I described exactly what they were for and they were very intrigued.

So has anyone got a pattern or detailed drawing that I can give them to base a quote on? Farndon manufacture the best racing cranks and rods in the world as far as I am concerned. The quality has to be seen to be believed.

Anyone interested?

I can get a crank and a rod to you.......and a piston if they can do them!

I am guessing they wont be cheap though for one offs!

They are quite reasonable when you look at what goes into making them. I had a forged billet crank made for my mates Caterham. It was 4.5 pounds lighter than the original with hollow crank pins and a wdged profile. It is a bloody work of art, engineering porn! And the cost was only £850+vat.

Thing is I think there are a few people who might be interested in them so a batch may be cheaper.

As for pistons I might know someone else who can do them. If you want to drop them down to me I will see what the price is.

They have not made a VR4 crankshaft before so I do not have any details for one. The spec would be whatever you want it to be. If you want a 1000bhp crank it will cost alot more than one for say 600bhp. They make it to order.

I did give costs etc in a different thread. I would post the link to it but don't know how to do it :embarasse

Search for a thread called "concensus of opinion".

Marcus.
