Is there an easy way to tell?
I have a feeling mine is...

Castle Combe, followed by Elvington, followed by Santa pod - if it hasn't gone by then it's fine /yes

It'll begin to slip on exuberant gearchanges into 3/4/5th first. Will progress to slipping in any higher gear. Then it's maintenance time.

A good indication is when you try going up a hill and it starts revving out. If it gets bad enough, it'll do it on the flat if you try give it the berries

put the handbrake on hard. if you can drive your car, your clutch is fine.

Alternatetively, when driving along keeping your foot on the throttle just gently depress your clutch pedal till you here the revs rise, if it doesn't go down very far before change of engine note then its on it last legs, being hydraulic clutches what you have is what you got...no adjustment..... :thumbsdow

Thats exactly why i asked this question. I hardly even have to touch the clutch pedal and the revs will rise.. sometimes after changing gear it seems like it does a double take on gripping. gear changing is oh, so sloppy... very abrupt now... waaaahh it was only changed last year , unless of course VBJ but a worn clutch in, and not a new one.. or worse still, left my original one in, and gave me another one :rolleyes4

There is an adjustment. free play is adustable under the dash.

I'm getting this - I thought I'd busted the gearbox.... Knew about slipping, but didn't know about the 'Snatchy' thing, which is what mine does every now and again!!

Is it? where? what does it look like?
i'd so like to move my free play about 1" further down..

Last manual VR4 i drove had a knackered clutch....if you accelerated normally through the gears, at about 4,ooorpm the revs would rise but not your speed!, then change gear, it would bog down, revs would rise then at 4,000 rpm the revs would rise very fast but not your speed...PS that was at VBJ. :embarasse

IMHO this is for pedal height adjustment not clutch adjustment free play..... /yes

I was told by Mitsi the clutches are self adjusting hydraulics. So once it starts to go that's it, you need a new one.

Thank god for the auto?!?!?

In this particular instance maybe with the clutch issues but the auto box has a few nasty surprises of its own which can be expensive to rectify.... if you are brave enough to find out, have a search on the site :rolleyes4 :rolleyes4

Nope - it adjusts free play and can slightly change the pedal/clutch engagement point.

i had this adjusted in a clutch shop about 4 months ago.

or at least that was what i was told by the clutch specialist - and the difference i felt after it was done.
