Anyone konw where to buy the exhaust flap thingy. It makes the exhaust quiet under normal driving then when you floor it the flap opens up fully so not to restrict the flow. I seen them a few months ago in a mag but can't seem to find them now. Can anyone help.

I think they work with boost / vacuum

cheers

The mitsi GDI (or at least my VRG 1.8) had one in the stock exaust. It works off an electronic box in the boot and is actuated with a wire cable.

You can get aftermarket ones, cant remember the site I saw them on, (might have a quick search soon though) but they were vac operated. I think vac kept it closed, loss of vac opened it up (ie when you want power)

Probably wouldn't be hard to modify to your needs if you can get one from a GDI Exaust.

you could nick one out of an audi. they work on pressure and have a little pressure sensor on them similar to a wastegate actuator. work quite well.

Check out this AutoSpeed article

If you were only interested in noise suppression, you could just make the valve manually actuated via a variable resistor and a servo type setup.

We took one of these off of Project VX. We've still got it, and the little black box thingy too!;)

Sweet. Not sure how the black box is operated, but could be worth a look. I don't remember what the ID of the GDI exaust valve is, but its probably a little restrictive to have it in the full exaust path... would probably want it as a bypass valve, as used in the GDI exaust.

Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7966188123&category=33630
would be ideal.

Cheers Kenneth, good bit of detective work there  I am only interested in noise suppression so any of the above will do.

I like the autospeed one will do a bit more reading
