From the Home Page menu, select "Forums", then "User CP"

From the next page, select "Edit Options"

At the very bottom of the next page, there's a section called "Avatar"

Click on "Change Avatar"

On the next page, you can choose one of the default ones or, at the bottom of the page, there's an option to "Use custom avatar". Click "yes" and either point to the URL of where the picture you want to display is located, or upload a picture from your PC. IIRC, you'll be limited to a file of around 20k bytes, or 100x100 pixels.

That should do ya :)

I managed to get a pic INSERT INTO post VALUES (several in fact) down below 20K but none of them would load unless i actually reduced the page size down to 100x100 pixels. Usually by this stage the files were below 10K. Why is that ?

I much prefer the smaller sized Avatars, you go on some sites and they are huge and take up most of the space!! at least this way it looks tidy.

We could do with some more smilies though.. on the MLR thay have one for every expresson and p**s take!:D

To keep image quality good, try to remember to reduce size by exact multiples. Half, quarter, fifth the size etc. Jpegs don't like to be messed about ;)

Gif's are worse! as they only use a few colours. There's quite a good Gif optimizer that comes with Paint-shop Pro.
