I’ve just got a 2nd hand inlet manifold and it is covered in oil inside, (no point for guessing where it came from) does anyone know anything that I can soak it in to clean it. I’ve tried diluting a full bottle of autoglym tar and oil remover in a bucket of water and soaking it in that but the stuff is suppose to be used neat so it got some off but not a lot. Anyone know a product that can be diluted and will clean it?

Sounds silly, but ordinary washing soda ought to do the job?

Mix up some fairly strong soda in a bucket and drop the manifold in, soak and it should be good.

Take care, as the solution will be caustic!

Petrol is always a goodun, just dont have a crafty smoke nearby when its soaking! Failing that we always used to use a parafin bath when we had to clean up cylinder heads etc

Try Kerosene. This is what engineers use to clean up. Well at least the ones I know in NZ use it.

You could always try the grease commonly found in elbows

check with a local shop that does engine rebuildes. If they have a hot tank
see if they will hot tank it for you for a small fee. We do that here and they
come out looking new. /yes

With my 1.8 GDI (damn that EGR crap makes a mess of the intake manifold) I actually used a water blaster to clean it out!

Worked real good too.

EDIT: ps, It also didn't take very long to do.
