I've seen a lot of talk on the MLR and Scoobynet about insurance and have been amazed at how much people seem happy to pay to insure their motas

I used to run a twin-turbo Legacy, insured through Bennets Online with Norwich Union. I paid a pretty reasonable £664 in Year 1, £624 in Year 2 and £623 in Year 3. When I traded in the Legacy against my VR-4, they asked for an additional £186 for the remaining 6 months of the year :INSERT INTO post VALUES ( . I paid it, but when they quoted me £896 for the next full year, I thought they were having a larf so I shopped around. The two main insurance brokers who are on Scoobynet quoted me over £1200 and over £900 respectively. Not impressed, I looked around and found The Policy Shop (http://www.policyshop-insurance.co.uk/cgi-bin/PolicyShop.storefront) whose website say they specialise in Japanese imports. My phone enquiry was returned within half an hour with a quote of £523 :D which didn't need much persuading to accept. Can't fault the service - very professional, great communication, fast service.

I recommend them to anyone looking to better an existing quote. I have no connection with them but good service is worth rewarding with recommendation .... :)

I'm going with dorset insurance group this year.

http://www.dorsetinsurancegroup.co.uk/mr2.htm

Speak to Sarah - nobody else - on 01202 302888

They do the MR2 club and GT-Four club insurance schemes.

With them, my insurance went from £650 last year INSERT INTO post VALUES (and that was with a lot of 'phoning round) to £405 this year.

This is for an imported GT-Four ST205 parked on the street in Aberdeen. Fully comp, legal expenses, protected no claims, etc.

I'm 30 with 9 yrs no claims.

Policy includes: Unlimited modifications INSERT INTO post VALUES (as long as you notify them); free trackday cover INSERT INTO post VALUES (as long as you notify them); agreed value.

My insurance for my imported VR4 has gone from £850 last year to £450 this year - car as below. Again, parked on the street. Not unlimited mods on this policy, though, as it is not part of a club scheme. However, wheels, exhaust and filter are not bothered about.

Policy is underwritten by norwich union.

My wife is a named driver on both policies.

Cheers,

Calum

That's what annoys me about insurance companies! I had been with Norwich Union for three years, 10+ years no claims, no points, car garaged, good postcode, right age INSERT INTO post VALUES (high 40s); low risk job, etc. and they quote me over £900. Then they quote you half that  They don't deserve my business INSERT INTO post VALUES (and don't have it now).

Doc.

Tried Elephant and they said they wouldnt insure because it was an import. Is your car an import?

Dorset insurance group quoted over a grand for my vr4, i am one of the safest bets around - 35 with 13 years no claims.

How can they justify that :evil2:

This is a really old thread. I think the general consensus now is to try Lifesure who seem to know what a VR-4 is and don't leg you over on premiums.

Do a search on "Lifesure" and you should get the current threads and thinking ...
