View Full Version : Oil Pump Concerns ?

Should we have any on the VR4, I can't recall anyone having any issues yet.

Only reason I ask is that recently I have heard numerous stories of oil pump failures causing knackered engines. The most recent was on an MR2 down at AP this week that went at 7mph = new engine ! The car had only done 56k miles too !

Anyone got any ideas of when one should consider changing it ? I know it's probably one of those "how long is a piece of string" questions but I would rather fork out for a new pump than a new engine.

Anyone changed theirs ? Idea of costs ?

I have a feeling forking out for a new pump may well be as expensive as a 'new' engine!

I had a feeling that may be the case Dave. I take it you haven't looked into the costs of a new pump at any time ? So it's a suck it an see scenario :embarasse

What life would you put on an average pump in your extensive experience ?

Looks like a fairly big job to change it, certainly not a routine job
