View Full Version : Dual Exhaust, will this cause problems with the AYC box?

Hi, I'm quite keen to get a new exhaust system, including a decat pipe, and replacing the whole system from that point backwards.

I'm quite keen to get a muffler on either side of the car, there looks to be heaps of room and infact the stock exhaust pipe is on the right hand side in the middle of the car anyway.

The one question I have about this is that the AYC box is on the right hand side of the car, above where the new muffler would be. Will the AYC cope with the heat from the second muffler, or will it blow up? I've manged to find pictures of 2 or 3 cars with this done, but they were not VR-4's, and didn't have AYC.

Any comments much appreciated.

BDA and Interlec seem to have survived.

Looks like I might have to get that done then, interlec and dave, if you're watching, any input would be great, thanks!

18 months and still going strong! Flow once it has warmed up is even, the tone is awesome, but a bit droney, and the AYC is not a problem. You will find there is less space on the other side of the car for a silencer, but you should be able to fit a slim one in!

Here is my story!

Thats great to know thanks. There is a reasonable amount of room there, I think it should be ok to find mufflers to fit in there. I think I'll still try to keep them as far away from the AYC as possible, and sit the mufflers a little bit lower than possible.

I really like the tip on the stock exhaust, I wonder if 2x stock exhausts would be an option....I'll talk to the guys at Pitstop in Newmarket, they did the decat pipes for some NZ members a few months ago and have been recommended by a couple of people.
