View Full Version : Piston/valve overlap?

I've just realised that I don't know the answer to this.

If the cambelt were to snap whilst driving along in the GLS (4G63), is there overlap in the engine? ie, is it going to be a top-end rebuild or simply replacing the belt?

I know some toyota engines just need to have the new belt put on and they run again, but other engines will bend the valves and need rebuilding, but what happens on the GLS?

in most cases you need to replace all valves :embarasse

The GLS-spec 4G63 is an interferance engine - that is to say that in the event of the belt snapping, your valves will dig nice holes into the pistons! /help Same as the 6A13 and the 6A13TT too!

Damn... Not that it's a problem, just was curious. I know the toyota group do or have recently done some non-interference engines (LS400, RAV4), so just wondered in this case.
