Here are the symptoms, can anyone suggest what is wrong?

1. He has a bit of an intermittent whine at the top end
2. I think the head gasket is gone as he shows an emulsified mix leaking from the filler.
3. The bottom end is rumbling and I think his big end is playing up.
4. The sump is leaking.
5. His timing is out by a few degrees.
6. His suspension is a bit wobbly.

Go back to the manufacturer and ask there advise.
Do you have any kind of warranty?

I can tell you this much, I think it will take a longs time to rectify and probably wont be cheap. But I suppose thats just the cost of labour :rolleyes4

Dunno about the rest, but Points one and two can be fixed using Gaffer Tape.... :embarasse :joker:

Classic symptoms displayed by the majority of males given the opportunity to regularly play with a pair of boobs. These typically fade after 12-18 months only to return in the mid-teens.......... :rolleyes4

Hahaha! Love the original question and some of the previous answers ....... however,

This is SO typical of new owner/users. They get hold of a new model and then start messing around with the internals and expect it to function like the original.

You have to dispense some TLC for a few years Dave and tweak it here and there and eventually you'll find it works just like the original manufacturer intended. Don't worry, the fuzzy logic ECU (located at the very top end within a hard dome like shell) will learn how YOU act and train itself with your assistance.

But consider yourself very fortunate ........ I ordered TWO new models a few years back and neither of them had a big end .......... just a simple overflow channel, which seems to work OK, but every time they need draining they have to go into a garage, the skirts etc removed and placed on a ramp. Your model can be drained virtually anywhere.

Anyway, best of luck with the ongoing maintenance.

I've had four of the earlier models, & they still cause problems even now !! all have suffered major leaks from new, & one of them still had bottom end problems many years into ownership !! :embarasse
The earliest model we got, didn't quite turn out as expected ?? but we still kept it for 18 years untill it went to a better home............ in Brighton ! ;)
the 3rd 'model' :rolleyes4 still refuses to start !! I keeping turning her over, but It's usually several hours [ mid afternoon ] before I get a peep out of it !!
The newest one ?? well............. I think I'm going to keep that one for good. /yes It's been no trouble at all since we got it !! [ apart from some "emergency" interim servicing !! :rolleyes4

If it's not working out you can always get another one - hell if you've got the space you could have one for each day of the week. All told they're pretty cheap to obtain it's just the running costs that'll punish you.

Me? I've had a look round a few manufacturers - some spotless hi-tech plants and some dirty unkept workshops but have not made my mind up which offers the best compromise between after sales support and desirability.

It seems we are not getting very far on a tank full either, and he is really difficult to fill.

Hold on !

Exactly WHERE are you filling it up ......... that MAY be your problem.

Are you using the correctly rated fuel, maybe it needs a booster! Be advised not to overfill though as this can cause leakages. Wouldn't recommend flushing either as this will definately cause bottom end problems and if it lets go then it will be a helluva job cleaning it up!
Would maybe book in to a specialist tune up agent or try an additive and see how it is running after a few days.
I've had mine twelve months and had e few teething problems, most recently the intake system got blocked but managed to clear itself after a couple of days but this led to a bit of top end trouble with a slight splutter but this was cleared with a touch of additive!!

I would suggest leaving all of the messy stuff to the operator that came with him. In case of warranty or failure issues they are best equiped to deal with the situation although the cost can be high!

I second every word of the above! Having two models myself both of which at different times have displayed all of the above symptons have found this to be sound advice. I have tried to be a modern helpful trainee technician/sevicing/ filler and cleaner/valeter but if all else fails hand back to the original technician and reach for the wallet and clear off for some liquid filler yourself and hope normal service is resumed on your return. /help

1. He has a bit of an intermittent whine at the top end

This is not usually a major problem. Just remove the fuel cap and top it up occassionally.

2. I think the head gasket is gone as he shows an emulsified mix leaking from the filler.

Nothing to worry about, it just a new method of fuel delivery. You may need to consider a slower fuel pump. However it will come right after a couple of months.

3. The bottom end is rumbling and I think his big end is playing up.

This is a common problem and gets worse and louder with age.

4. The sump is leaking.

This requires constant changing of the seals. Eventually it rights itself. However, it has been known in some models for the problem to return with age.

5. His timing is out by a few degrees.

This requires constant monitoring. Don't ignore it for the first weeks or so. However, try to ignore it later on and it will right itself. Again in some models this problem can return in later years.

6. His suspension is a bit wobbly.

Plenty of use of the suspension will fix this.

Well Dave, No worries their mate, ith this model. But note the above and you will be fine
