VR4 Manual Gearbox Problem

Hi, and err Help.
After some advice regarding a manual gearbox problem.

VR4 Legum running fine until last night, noticed a couple of almost stutters when accelerating. Only happened about 5 or 6 times.

Driving along today and it did it again, only now I have no third gear at all.

There was no crunching or screeching noises, just no third gear. All the other gears are fine, no abnormal noises even when hammering the car.
Third gear selects OK but it's like being in neutral.

Anyone have any helpful clues or advice, other than it's knackered.

err... you were hammering the car with a stuffed gearbox??? /Hmmm

Check your gearbox oil.

Sounds like you are going to have to take the gearbox out, so speculation is a bit of a waste of time IMO.

Still, could be that you have stripped the ring gear (or whatever it is) that connects the output shaft to third gear.
If you had stripped third, I expect you would have got some noise as the gears got out of sync

Just working on the assumption if the gearbox if is on it's way out, I might as well find out sooner rather than later.
But other than no third gear there really is no difference.
It was just a longshot that someone might be aware of linkage or cable that breaks that gives these symptoms.
I think they call it, Clutching at Straws.
