With adequate tuning to limit torque, then I do think that the stock internals will hold up much longer than people think.

There are already many laws that already cover that - public indecency for one!

Confused replied to a thread Fluffy running in Engine
Davezj is aiming to release soon a Coil On Plug kit, but life has got in the way over the last couple of months, so it's not quite ready for release yet. Another potential issue could be the MAF - if you unplug it, does it run better? (With the MAF unplugged, the ECU throws a fault code, but it will fall back to a very basic TPS vs RPM table for fuelling) If you're unaware of the state/age of the plugs, then it's always a good point to start with a change of plugs. Although, removing the...

Assuming it's one of the boxes with an external filter - not all of them have an external filter!

Anything that's loose and in the oil should come out using that process - I wouldn't be too happy with doing a chemical wash - you've no idea how those things might affect the box internals itself. Once some Amsoil is in there, things will likely start to get even better - maybe do another full change after a few thousand miles?

There is no EGR on a VR-4, so the inlet actually stays pretty clean! It's only the crankcase breather that gets pulled back into the inlet pre-turbo. I've given my spare throttle body & stepper motor to foxdie only the other day, but maybe he can have a quick look at what happens to it when he has it on on the bench.

After a break to work on my dad's old Shogun (click here to catch up with those videos!), I'm back on the Anglia this time, where I finally make a start on fitting the huge new chargecooler - and of course almost everything about it needs changing!

Yes, the stepper motor does move in/out to move a plunger, just as you describe. Whether you can manually move it to roughly the right position and adjust... it might get you closer, but I'd still try to do it properly!

My bad for not double-checking the Staged Upgrades thread properly - yes, as Nick Mann says a 45 and a 90! If you hadn't already ordered the silicon elbows, you could have got the intercooler with 63mm inlet/outlet and kept it 63mm throughout instead.

The hard-pipes on the VR-4 are 63mm, so as most of the aftermarket eBay special 600x300x76 intercoolers have 76mm outlets, we use silicon 90 degree reducers on either end to convert down to the 63mm we need for the existing hard pipes. So - if you can specify which size outlets to have on the end tank, if you're sticking with the rest of the stock hardpipes, you'd want 63mm on either end, then get a 63mm 90 degree elbow and a 63mm 45 degree elbow. If you go for an intercooler with 76mm...

There's much better ways of doing it! Unless you're going for total retro OEM looks...? That's something I've never quite got, but, each to their own! Good luck with your search!

I have used my serial number on multiple machines over the years, and with different cables, so I don't think it's locked to a specific cable, or requires internet access to activate. If getting hold of a new copy of EvoScan and a cable proves troublesome, then there are a few of us around who have the cable & software, off the top of my head there's myself in Nottinghamshire, Davezj in Manchester, foxdie and Nick Mann in Birmingham - if any of us are nearby enough to meet up, we'd be...

If you've mucked about with the idle screw, without correctly locking the idle valve using a MUT or EvoScan, then you'll really struggle to get it to idle properly, as you would have always been fighting the ECU adjusting the stepper.

I must have missed that, sorry. Was that really the only fault code you got? I'd expect a fault 72 on the engine light too along with that code...

You do NOT need EvoScan to pull fault codes, simply a short length of wire. Until you've done the "flashy dash" and got a list of known fault codes, you're basically wasting your time trying to diagnose anything.

Have you done the simple "flashy dash" test to get a list of fault codes?

I definitely would be willing to - it looks like CHESHIRECAT has done half the hard work already by removing the cover! Feel free to PM me if you'd like me to attempt the fix as described.

76mm thick barely fits, 105mm definitely not. I've got one of the cheap eBay ones, it seems to do a good enough job, and I often tow and generate a lot of heat in the inlet.

Tony_T that's why I said "competitor" in quotes! I definitely do also see us as complementary too, I am also a paid up member over there - and I really should get involved over there more often! (when they're back online, of course!)

Braddy40 if you're willing to post your MAF to me, and cover the cost of returning it to you, I'm happy to do the soldering aspect of it for you, as per the instructions posted above. Will mean your car is off the road for a few days whilst it's in transit to and from me. Garry

I'm unaware of anything, however I sincerely hope it's just a temporary thing, and the reason for not being sorted already is that the admins are enjoying their Christmas break, rather than any other reason. Whilst a "competitor" of ours, having a choice is always good, and there is also a wealth of knowledge and knowledgeable people over there that would be a huge loss to the VR-4 community if it were to be down for good. That said, everyone is of course always welcome here too, either...
