yep i am always open to leaning something new. if somebody says something i dont agree with i will check the data sorces and consider all the option and revise what i thought was the truth and move on. Every day is a school day. The moment you stop learning is the day you die. it is a complicated topic, but it can be worked out and explained full with Maths/Physics. which is why i was so impressed with a Normally aspirated system from one of the USA universities that had a continually...

what oil does it say was used for the gear box? the auto box oil only needs to changed every 45K miles so i am surprised it was changed every year. the correct oil is expensive a full flush with 10-15L of oil is about £150-£200 ish depending how much you use. the is a guy on here adaxo adam that can get AMSoil for a good price. he is putting order in at this very moment so jump on this thread and you can get the oils from him. ...

is that one of the wheel speed sensors. or is it the input shaft speed sensor on top of the gear box that sits underneath the air box.. it could be as i have seen the pins of the sensor corrode away to blue green dust because people let the hollows in the gear box casing fill with water and the sensors sit in the bottom of these hollows so input shaft speed sensor could be a culprit. if my memory serves me right the input shaft is at the front ad the output shaft sensor is at the back. both...

You can bypass the IFS by connect the tach signal directly to the ECU but as Garry says you lose the reason why it is there in the first place. But you have to remember the following. If the IFS fails the car will not start. So if you are worried about failures make the connection required to bypass the IFS and don't connect them then if the the IFS fails you can just lift the bonnet and bypass the IFS immediately. i would not recommend bypassing the IFS all the time but there is no reason...

make sure you are looking at the connector the right way up. it might be narrow at the top and wide and the bottom or wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. i can never remember which way round it is.

Why were you leaving skid marks? can you give more detail which of the following is the reason. are the gear changes really harsh and fast? are the gear changes the same when using D and the manual mode. what fluid did you use to fill the gear box was it SPIII compliant please specify the exact type. if you ahve used the wrong fluid type it can cause all kinds of issues with the gear change. 1. the car was only working in rear wheel drive and you were doing a burnout on the rear...

have you been doing any work on your car before this failure occurred? what was the scenario of the failure? e.g. 1. were you thrashing the car on track and the failure occurred. 2. have you left you car standing for 2 years and come back to it tried to start it and drive it away and the failure occurred. 3. have you been driving the car about for the last 3 weeks with no issues at all, putting your foot down every now and then and the car has performed perfectly. you got up the next...

The metal work round the sub is reinforced and relatively thick metal panels cover all the openings. I can't get to the ayc reservoir behind the carpet panel without unbolting anther metal panel. Plus all the removable panels have a thick foam tape around them to stop the panel vibrating with the tunes. Personally don't use the sub as it was connected to the factory amp in the boot and had long since been removed as it was not connected to the after market stereo in the front. I very rarely...

i was thinking of the rear wing void as a possibility. but i a not sure how much space there actually is. my car is bit odd in this respect as i have a factory fit sub in the boot which means all the panels around that area have no openings in them, they are all covered by blanking plates to seal the sub box. i might look at removing the side storage tray in the back so the pump sits a bit lower and only need a small box putting over the top of it. as the starage tray is probably 2 or 3 inches...

That is a fair point nev. the pump does not run continuously. i was looking at my pump the other day under the car and although i had cleaned the pump hanger a couple of years ago and treated the rust and cover the area with underseal it was still corroded to hell and the pump hanger is falling to bits. i am going to need to replace the pump hanger as will most people with 1998 and older cars. so why not protect the pump for good and not have to worry about it again. i have been watching...

I don't know this, but i am assuming there is no nut on the diff side of the prop shaft flange, normally there is only a oil seal behind the flange and the shaft goes into the diff and the pinion gear is on the end of that shaft. but there is a taper roller bearing on the shaft and it is the pre load you have to set on this bearing. i suppose if it has a straight cut encapsulated bearing then i don't think pre load is set on this type of bearing, and the flange nut can just be torqued up to...

i am looking at few different kits but i am waiting to hear back from a guy that did a good refurb video. that one looks like it all the bits you need including the motor bearing and oil seal for the motor bearing. plus the orings, bolts and stainless steel plate. the last time ilooked at refurb kits they were about £100. but now they seem a bit more resonable.

thanks for confirming that nick. and if you undo that nut holding the flange on you have to be careful to reapply the same preload on the pinion bearing when you do it up. not sure what the preload should be but it is not that difficult to setup and test.

anything slung under the car with get wet and corrode it does not matter what you wrap it in. plus you have to make sure the heat can get for where the pump lives. the boot is the safest place. but if you have just spent almost 2k on a replacement pump relocation is good option. but even if i have just refurbished an AYC pump it takes a while to do and it is a lot of effort. It will only be a couple of years before it is all crusty again if it under the car. you could get a plastic food...

Anyonr ever thought of doing a relocation of APC pump into the boot. these guys do it EVO's so it can be any different for a VR4 and lets face it everybodies ATC pump is coroded to hell so if you refurb it or want it to last any more than a few more years why wounldl't you move it to the boot. you could do it yourself for much less than they are charging all you need it the replacement flex fluid line and a couple of brackets.
