Cat problems
Hi guys. What are the chances of getting a cat for my car on here. I have had one fitted and apparently it is the wrong type. Cost 80.00 plus the rest. The engine light came on due to it being the wrong type. Alternative is a now going to cost a whooping £600. I have no idea where that came from but you came probaly understand I nearly fell though the floor. I could only think that that is for a proper Mitsubishi exhaust.
Alternative now is a second hand cat from a breakers at 150. The guy in the garage said he would now want to take the dodgy cat off and send it back saying its the wrong one  but he said he will fit my second hand one if it is decent and in good nick
Views on this problem please as to any help.
Thanks

I can't for the life of me see how a dodgy cat (whatever that is) could make the engine light come on. Many of us run our cars without one at all. A second hand one from someone here would cost nothing like £150. No disrespect but has your guy had any experience of these cars before.

I do have a old spare 1, it does have 1 of the bolts cut off though.

If it is just for the MOT you can borrow mine ( I only put it on for the test ) and fit a de-cat pipe when its passed.

Just realised yours is the 2.00 Sport.

Thanks guys for your come back on this. Back box decided to drop to pieces on day I went to MOT. Ended up paying for a centrre pipe and back box which whached another 300 on the job. the guy took the other cat off and put a fresh one on.??????????????????????? With in 50 miles the orange engine light came back on. If I take the car in to exhaust specilist he plugs the computer in and resets its. Light off for another 50 miles and then its back on. Its stayed on ever since as I cant be assed mucking about with it anymore. Car seems to run fine but i don't know what's going to happen when it comes to sell it.

you can get a top to tail zorst including a sports cat made for around £400 from powerflow and they give you a guarantee.

Im guessing it's a facelift Galant? Unless you have a rear o2 sensor, which I don't think you do, it probably isn't the cat, but most likely a dodgy front o2 sensor. If you have android phone, get torque app free and a cheap elm327 bluetooth obd off eBay, then you can monitor o2 values and read fault codes. Front o2 should fluctuate from around 0.1 - 0.9 volts when hot and fast idling. You could just use a multimeter but it's much harder to set up
