Another How To Guide to change A/C Climate Controller for LED Light
Hi all,
I know there are couple of threads talking/teaching about how to change to use LED for the A/C Climate Controller by changing LED bulbs. Recently, I have done mine as well, but just one more step advanced, using a LED backlight panel.
Here is the step-by-step guide how to modify that.
What you need:
LED backlight panel
resistor, 470 ohm 1or similar
baking paper
Polarizing Film Sheet(optional)
tools, eg, cutter
soldering iron, solder wire
- First thing first, take you own risk when doing this, also, only do this when you know what you are going to do :)
- OK, let's start, of course, remove screws and remove the black cover of the A/C controller.
- It is important that paint one of the pins of the LCD, so that you know which direction of the LCD to put back on. I use black paint to paint pin 1, so that I know which pin is 1 when solder the LCD back.
- Optional. On top of the LCD panel, there is a polarizing film sheet. If it is too old, you can peel it off and replace with a new one. If you decide so, before peeling off the old sheet, measure the LCD size, then put the new sheet on top of the LCD. If you see the LCD black, then you are in wrong direction. Turn the sheet 90 degree, and you should see the LCD, and this is the correct direction, and you can cut the sheet.
- After that, you can peel off the old sheet from LCD, use a hairdryer to heat up the sheet a little bit, and peel it off slowly. You also need to remove the glue left on the LCD too.
- Use cutting to cut all the pins of the LCD. Cut the pin as "low" as possible.

- After that, you will see there is a light blue plastic, which I guess makes the filament bulb looks more white than yellowish. Anyway, we don't need this plastic anymore.

- Unscrew the white plastic base.
Attachment 81464
- With the white plastic base, use cutting or whatever to cut away the mounting on both side like this
Attachment 81465Attachment 81466
- Here is the LED backlight panel, I finally choose a white LED with 62mm x 37mm, which is just fit into the white plastic base. Actually, this LED backlight panel is just an Acrylic with side mounting LED, so it's very cheap to buy.

- Baking paper, it is used to diffuse the light from the LED backlight panel, and looks nicer through the transparent LCD, otherwise you will see the backlight panel through LCD. Anyway, measure the white plastic base and cut the baking paper enough to put on top of it. I forget the size, maybe, 4.5cm x 6cm?

- Now, put the LED backlight panel onto the white plastic base, and it is just fit onto that, and tighten the plastic base.
Attachment 81470
- Find a way to put the LED wires through the hole, and then solder the positive wire with 470 ohm resistor. BEWARE of the positive(12v) and ground, and don't short circuit.
- Also, like in the yellow circle in the picture, cut that connection to have full brightness when illumination ON at night. Otherwise LED backlight panel will OFF when you turn on headlight, because of the reduced voltage. Full details can be found from OZVR4 forum.
Attachment 81477
- After soldered LED backlight panel wires, put the baking paper on top.
Attachment 81478
- Put back the LCD. BEWARE the pin polarity; that's why told you to paint the pin before removing.
- Solder the LCD pins to the original pins.
Attachment 81473
- Clean the LCD, and stick the polarizing film sheet.
Attachment 81472Attachment 81471
- Assembly the cover and case and that's all !!!
- Daytime under sunlight, still bright enough to see the LCD
Attachment 81474
- Nighttime, it is also great although still a bit bluish, due to the white LED.

I have done mine and 1 for my bro without any issue.
Thanks all.
