Hello from Canada
Hello folks,
Just picked up a low mileage '97 Legnum COTY in Vancouver B.C.-
Unfortunately I don't dare to drive it yet, as I believe it needs the 60k performed ASAP. I'm somewhat familiar with the workings after restoring/modifying my TT Stealth over the past few years, but I do like to follow the FSM's whenever possible & it seems tech info is limited. I'm hoping you folks can help with that-

A lot of info is around here somewhere, with some members articles too in the members area. Most stuff is covered as we have been learning stuff for more than a decade but we are still learning! There is a good cambelt swap thread for example.
Good luck with your car and I hope you have fun. I think there might already be a member from Vancouver on here too.

Welcome Keith.
What exactly are you looking for? I don't know any topic that has not been discussed and documented (usually in great detail) :)

Thanks, Gents.
I got a great deal on the car from a fellow known here as 'UpshotBravo'- He's fallen for an Audi.
He did quite a bit of work on the car & passed it along with a boot full of parts, including most of the parts for the timing belt service.
There is a rotational knock from the top end, & after researching a couple pics and having a listen with my stethoscope, I'm convinced its the TB idler pulley up top. I haven't pulled the covers, but there appears to be a rust-bleed over the top of the pulley mount bracket. Not going to chance it until I do the service. I'm sure the 18 years trumps the 62k km for the TB service to be overdue.
I did manage to find a great part # link here & I need to order up some additional pieces- I like to replace all the hardware as well, for the tensioner/bracket & pulleys.
Is the crank pulley/balancer 2 piece bonded with rubber? The 2 piece 6g72 balancer has a tendency to unbond over time & can be a disaster, & if similar, I'll order up a new one. I came across a post from the previous owner in regards to losing charging when the AC was on- & that's a good indication the balancer is unbonded & slipping.
Is there no gasket for the waterpump??
Nick, in regards to signing up for membership & the benefits, Is there an actual translated FSM? I'm a bit nuts about proper procedure & torque specs.
Up to a couple weeks ago I had never heard of a Legnum... very unique, versatile & sexy vehicle I have parked in my shop here now & really looking forward to getting behind the wheel (even though it's on the wrong side) ;)
Thanks,
Keith

The crank pulley/balancer is indeed 2 piece bonded with rubber and occasionally they unbond.

hi and welcome to the club,

There is no English Language full workshop manual as far as we know. A New Zealand company dis a translation but missed several key factors. We have manuals for UK spec cars (not the VR4) manuals for 6Axx engines and some Japanese language stuff. Between it all most questions can be answered.

Hello from Canada
Hi Keith, welcome. You will find this forum very usefull. VR4's are bulletproof they are properly and timely serviced. I might b going in a few weeks to Merrit near Vancouver. Keep in touch.
-
Thanks, Myron.
If you have a chance & a set of wheels, take a drive from Merrit through the Nicola valley to the Fraser canyon.
Awesome scenery

Yeah, I was checking online now. Looks amazing. I'm hoping to get nice v8 pickup :)
-
I'm pretty sure at one point I came across a maintenance schedule on the site here, but damned if I can find it now??
If there is, can I get some direction?
thanks

Thanks- Being in the UK, they must be referring to 60k km? I always thought the 60k was in reference to miles for most platforms, so roughly 100k km.
Edit: I just learned that the UK is in miles, not km's ....news to me!/dunce
