4 hours later! grrr... atleast the transfer box is off
gearbox is next, however i need a short dumpy 14mm socket... which i don't have, but wouter does, cos he got a nice new shiney socket set for his birthday - so im waiting for him to return..
heres a couple more pics while i wait.
All credit to you for having a go at this - daren't think how much a dealer would charge in labour
If the Halfords you went to was the one on the A56 in Altrincham, about half twelve yesterday, I was in there as well - I thought it might have been you, but wasn't sure enough to say hello.
My mission for today (engine filter/oil change, rear diff oil change) is almost accomplished - just need to do the transfer box oil now - looks like you may be a while longer with the clutch
that would have been me - you should have shouted.
well, its out! - i just can't figure out how to get the clutch out!

theres a clip... which i didn't see before. the following pics should give you an idea, ive no idea what the parts are called, so ill not even bother. if someone could enlighten me to their names, the clutch housing, and the round thingy that would be great
obviously this is on my new clutch, but the same applies when its in the bell housing (think its called.. lol, im doing all this and ive no idea what things are called.. )
I came across a problem, well its not a problem as such, more another way of doing it... here are some pics of the old, and new clutch bits.. and also the thingy thats on my engine, youll notice on the flywheel that the outer bolt patterns are non existant on the new flywheel.. . which leaves me thinking ive to use the 7 bolts that are on my engine block.. but im not sure if i have to remove the round spinny thing from my engine block before attaching the new flywheel, or it bolts on aswell as it... however i doubt the latter is correct.
hopefully someone will know... other wise super Mo will be getting yet another undescriptive phone call, asking if the thingy, on the thing has to be put on the thingy on the other side of the thing...
mmm. Does look like you need to swap the plate from your engine off, and replace with your new one... surely those bolts will go through the new plate without separating it from the new flywheel??

the 'thingy' with the 'splines' on is you're pressure plate.Originally Posted by BraindG

yeah, i think it will.. looks ok, compared ok.. its just if thats the case, its going to be a right pain in the balls.. cos half the clutch will be in gearbox, flywheel on engine block, and ive got to somehow manage to move the gearbox over, line it all up and then tighten the flywheel to the rest of the clutch...
Excellent stuff Barry.. And will be dispatching a brand new heavy duty wheel barrow off to you tomorrow..

HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!
Andy and Derek showed up this morning, and the mood was positive. (thanks for turning up guys, and i feel a bit crap that we couldn't get anywhere, specially for derek )
We started by removing the plate and spacers from the engine block... as you can see from the decond picture there is a circle that sticks out, around which those spacers lived, and to which the flywheel disc sat snuggly..

Now, if we look at the flywheel again, which i already posted earlier you will see the problem, or atleast understand it easier...
bascially, if you look at the centre you'll see a large indent, inwhich are the 7 (8) holes that are used to bolt the flywheel to the engine block... however due to the centre on the engine block (second picture above) it wont sit with 100% surface. Which means there will be alot of pressure on the areas around each bolt hole on the flywheel... not good.
so, we're gonna have to get a spacer machined, which will look like the ones in picture 1 above.. which will fit into the indent on the new spec flywheel... which, hopefully will resolve the issue..

Can't get your phone number out of my PMs (poorly website?) to phone you to find out the verdict... I'll just have to wait for you to post it here
Doesn't look too hopeful tho'?
