Just thinking aloud here - the machinist will need the size of the 'ring/lip' on the engine output shaft - unless the spacer is an absolutely perfect fit to both the engine and the new flywheel, exact centering of the flywheel will be impossible - so the machinist might need to visit your engine with some measuring equipment for diameter and depth, 'cos he won't be able to do it without the 'ring' dimensions.
I don't know how accurate you need to be when fitting the flywheel, to stop vibrations/imbalances, but a magnetic-mount dial test indicator might be worth hiring/borrowing so you can turn the engine and check the flywheel's dead central by running the DTI on the outer flywheel edge.
Let me know when the 'box is ready to go back in - still not had one of these famous sandwiches

p.s. ive updated my previous posts with pictures now.

    Thats a point Andy

however i still have them spacers from the old flywheel which fit right, so providing the centre of the spacer is that size, and the entire width/depth is the same as the one on the flywheel, it should be ok?

Yeah, if he can get accurate measurements off the shims/spacers off the old flywheel, that should do ok?
Another thing - does it need longer bolts?!
Bet they need to be some sort of high tensile steel as well, not B&Q ones
A competition clutch specialist's advice is needed

    Quick update:
The guy came round last night and had a look, he felt, groped, ummm'd and aaaaah'd.
He decided it was an easy enough operation, and promptly left with one of the old spacers (for the central gap) and the flywheel itself (lol - I don't even know who he is, where his workshop is and infact that he's who he says he is.. but im sure it will be fine)

Today, I am expecting a phone call from the gentleman, whom was indeed (or at least appeared) to be knowledgeable in his engineering field. The total cost... £50 I enquired about getting a template made up, incase others want to use an EVO8 flywheel, so watch this space.

    Regarding the bolts.
After close inspection of all bolts, I noticed that the locktight was only up to a certain point on about 4 of them. which, in my eyes suggests those 4 bolts never went any further into the engine block than that point. so, I took one of these bolts, pushed it through the Spec flywheel and noticed that the locktight came up flush with the area that will be flat on the engine block, so in other words I don't think ill need to organise longer bolts.

stay tuned for the next enthralling episode of "So here it begins - Clutch-tastic"

    The story continues...

See here for Spec R flywheel just appeared on ebay

Only joking, bet it made you panic tho'

£50 is a bargain for the spacer - nice one I had visions of lots of toothsucking and ooohs and aaahs... it is going to be metal not wood isn't it

i picked it up today (will post pics in morning, cos my phone cable is at work) noy-o-boy he did a good job!.. looks fantastic, fits perfectly! money well spent..

the only other thing now, are those damn bolts, after looking at them in a bit more depth, ive come to realise, they are indeed a bit to short.. and id like to get some longer ones made... i might aswell, seeing as its all in bits.,,,

theres a place close to where i work, ill pop in tomorrow, see what they can do.

Hopefully tomorrow the reassembly will commence...
Ive had a dose of the flu the last 3 days, and my muscles are really really sore.. it feels like ive pulled a muscle in my neck, and ive had pains in my chest.. however this isn't a doctors forum, so lets get back on track..

Wouter, very kindly picked up a bolt, the flywheel and headed off to his father in laws. Whom, i believe has been a something engineer for a considerable amount of time... anyhoo, on seeing the bolt, the flywheel he said there shouldn't be an issue with the bolt being 3 threads shorter.. so, we're just gonna get on with it.

    ill keep youz posted,
