Grade R means it has been repaired. I would steer clear of anything that has been repaired in japan due to their low repair standards. If any repaired vehicles are imported into New Zealand unless the repair is very minor the LTSA normally requires the vehicle to be re-repaired in New Zealand and an engineers certificate to be issued. A grade 4 vehicle would be a good buy. I have imported a grade 2 vehicle before and it cost me about 270 pounds to get the dents/scratches removed to make it a grade 4 or above.
Nice looking car!!
"With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is not necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are going to land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly overhead."
Interesting. Given what their Sha-Ken is like, I would have expected their crash repairs to be of a high standard - So this isn't the case then?Originally Posted by marmel31
Apparently not. Before I imported my VR4 I spoke to the New Zealand agent for TAU which several members would have purchased from. He told me that any major repairs have to be re-done in NZ. So Japan is either not very good at repairs or NZ is really strict.Originally Posted by Kieran
Regardless of this I think it is a big enough risk importing a vehicle that you have seen only in photos nevermind one that has been in a crash.
The grade four car is a 1998 and would need a model report.
The story I got from japland when I was importing was that they're didn't bother repairing anything too serious as it wasn't cost-effective, so 'R' cars were generally a safe buy - generally body panel repairs etc. I never took the chance though - you'd really want someone to have a very careful look at the car for you, and that's virtually impossible unless you're using a very good agent.
There's so much stuff on the market that you're best off leaving them alone.
I did write a thread on importing some time back, and I think I explained the grading system, so do a bit of a search.
