I'm looking for someone wih a bit of knowledge on I.C.E. Or a view on it.

I've got my new car coming and I want to look to how I'm gonna do the in-car entertainment. The car is coming fitted with a Sony tape headunit and Sont CD changer, I don't know the model numbers as yet. I also have a 12V DVD player as well that tucks under the seat, I've had a few ideas:

Firstly, is changing the headunit to a Sony XAV-7W about £250, it's a motorized screen head unit, I can run the DVD player to it and also (I asume) the CD changer. On the downside, the changer doesn't play MP3's so I'll be restricted to normal CD's, also the headunit doesn't have a removable face so I can imagine someone breaking in to take it and while they're there they might get the DVD player and CD changer too, not good! I don't know if I'm being over cautious.
This is that one. And the -website-

Secondly, is changing the headunit for a JVC KD-SHX701 about £250, a standard CD headunit, it plays MP3's but I'd have to get rid of the DVD player (I never use it anyway), I don't know if a Sony CD changer would work on a JVC headunit, anyone know? It has a removable face so I have that added security. Another thing I like, and I quote "it can run a slide show of up to 70 still images or a single image of your favourite car, place or person." I know what I'd put on there!
This is that one. And the -website-

Or finally is changing the headunit for a Pioneer DEH-P9600MP about £250, again a standard CD headunit that plays MP3's, I'd again have to get rid of the DVD Player, the face is removable and it has an audio in for an Ipod, handfree etc. And again unsure if the changer would work on it.
This is that one. And the -website-

Any help would be most appreciated, I just can't decide.

No worries. I'm also looking at this one, JVC KD-AVX1 about £350, it's a DVD headunit, it plays DVD's, CD's and MP3's, you can even have MP3's on a DVD, so that's over 1000 songs on one disc! it also has a 3" TFT screen that the dvd's can be played on and also there is a AV in so I could say run a camera from the front of the car to the head unit and as I'm driving along it's being displayed on the screen, pretty nifty. On the downside, I'm not overly keen of the look of it and at £350 it's a bit pricey, I'm trying to find it cheaper.

Jay - what are you actually after?

Make a list of features you need and the features you'd like.
What sort of music do you listen to?
What sort of budget for the whole system did you have in mind?
Whilst the Head Unit is normally only what you see in terms of cosmetics, if your Speakers and amps don't back it up, regardless of how good it looks, it'll sound like poo.

Jay, what ghanda said seems to be good advice. However, my technical knowledge is about that of a cup of tea, so i'll go with looks - and THAT looks cool!!

When you say THAT do you mean the last one?

ghanda, I don't really need anything, it's all a lot of wants, to play cd's and MP3's, a screen would be very good, be able to hook my dvd player up would be an advantage, and the ability to connect the cd changer is also a plus. I think I've kind of answered it myself, I think it's gotta be the last one, it plays CD's, MP3's, DVD's so I can get rid of the DVD player. It's got video-in so I connect external devices and the face comes off for security. It 's a bit pricey though. Oh well..........

I was very impressed with the JVC AVX1 I had a brain numbing demonstration from Bal's super low GLS, the other week..But then as ghanda says the amps speakers and subs need to back it up properly. The screen is obv smaller than the flip out motorised ones but very clear and watchable. I was informed that it has inputs for cameras plus a shed load of phono in/outs...

350 is a good price for it...

I was thinking about amps, speakers and subs, I'm not overly bothered about it being loud or of a very high quality, I think I'd put it in and see how I go from there, it just costs a fair bit and is a pain in the arse to install. My current galant has phoenix gold components, a 12" JL sub and a Sony amp for the sub. Just wan't overly keen on doing it all again and it'd be quite expensive to get it all done by an audio shop.

    HI jayjay99

When i upgrade my head unit it would be the jvc kd avx1 without a doubt. £350.00 is a pretty good price, although on ebay if your lucky around £280.00 should win it for you.

That's where I was looking, on ebay but I wouldn't recommend getting those ones because they are coming from america and the DVD player will be region 1 so it wont play british discs, this is the one I just looked at here It's a refurb but comes with 12 months warranty and is just over £300.

Cheers, I've been measuring it but didn't think it would fit especially with this head unit which fills out the whole din, I think I'll go for a pillar guage mount, just gotta find one that'll be suitable for a galant.

Yup, had to trim the bottom off the surround panel of the Stereo. No biggie, as I'll be 'glassing the whole centre console below the Stereo very soon.
