what could cause an automatic tranny in the Galant to be in "limp mode"

All kinds of things . I know that's not a helpful reply - but as soon as the Transmission ECU detects an abnormal reading from it's sensors, it will go into 'limp' mode.Originally Posted by enyawbrown
Here's some of the things that have been reported on the forums as causing 'limp' mode, but this list is not a comprehensive one:
Incorrect fluid level
Degraded fluid
Overheated fluid
Solenoid fault
Input speed sensor fault
Output speed sensor fault
I'm not sure if you can make the transmission ECU spit out a fault code by shorting the OBD port into 'diag' mode or not. Have you got anywhere you can get the car plugged into a MUT-II tool at all?
could something as a missing ABS sensor cause this
Wouldn't have thought so. Is your ABS warning light on ? If so, simply remove the fuse to deactivate it.Originally Posted by enyawbrown
well I know for sure that one of the ABS sensors is missing, hence why the ABS light is constantly on. But I dont think something as simple as a missing ABS sensor can make the tranny go into LIMP MODE
carried it to a shop and his scanning tool couldn't read the ECU........
Yep, quite a few Galants that can't be read by the 'Western' MUTT's. Mine can't either.Originally Posted by enyawbrown
You'll need to check the codes manually - full details of the procedure are in the Library.
the library is ONLY for paying members
and its well worth the investment and paying
yeah rub it in pal
