    Rover Driver Thinking about Galant

At the moment I drive a Rover 820 Vitesse 2 door coupe. Its was a care very much over looked with 0-60 of 7.2 secs and 200bhp but is doesn't lack any luxary unlike most other fast cars and when peaple try to race it they seem supprised that such a large car can beat a poxy Gti etc, I want to buy a similar car earlier next year.

I now want more power but with 2 children i don't want the standard bone shaker sport cars or something everybody else has, the Galant VR4 seems to fit the bill.

Can anybody tell me how realible the VR4 is, what mpg do peaple get and the kind of service bills since I would be looking to buy a 3 to 4 year old car.

This site has the makings of the rover site mg-rover.og

Hi and Welcome to the club

IMHO very reliable car had mine for 21 months and not had any problem with it
MPG can vary on how you drive it , I can get about 18 mpg if i dont get heavy foot syndrome or low as 8 mpg and you must use Super Unleaded

Service is every 4500 miles  and cost is between £300 and £500 espescially on the major services at 18000 36000
And should be serviced at a Mitsubishi garage

I would have to say that the VR4 is quite an expensive car to run. I seem to be filling up with fuel every second day  but then it's still relatively new to me and my right foot needs to lose some weight

Like most modern Jap cars it's pretty reliable, but if anything does brake on the car you won't be able to phone your local car accesory shop for copy parts.

I do however feel that for the initial cost for the car, you really can't get anything in the same league, and I am happy to pay the costs knowing that I have a stunning, little known, monster of a car evil2:

Mine is a second car so it is easier to cope with fuel costs.
But it is worth every penny to have a car that looks so stunning and the fact no one knows what it is, makes it even better to own.
Although you can get a BMW etc and say you have so called prestige.. how can it be prestige when they are so mass produced they're everwhere?
All this about the car going unnoticed?.. you drive the VR-4 and you will soon find out for yourself if that is true! :cool1:

Parts are expensive so it is vital you keep up a Mitsubishi warranty, I wouldn't normally say that, but if something goes wrong that would cost a few quid to repair and it is covered! you won't have to sell any body parts to repair it.

It has all the luxurys you'll ever need and all the speed you'd ever need on the road.

If the VR-4 is too much than I'd suggest the normal Galant 2.5 V6 Sport, obviously not as fast, but doesn't look all that different.

Oh and welcome to the site.

    Welcome to the site !

I would agree with the all the previous comments. Like Brind, ours is a second car so not too worried about fuel costs - bought ours because we love Galant's and we like unusual cars.

All I would say is if you can DRIVE one - it will make up your mind for you !

    Thanks for the replies.
I'am only getting about 22-25 mpg with the rover so the fuel costs aren't a problem but I will have to ring about to check service costs since I've always stayed clear of dealers because the high costs do not always mean better service. But looking at the pics on this site has wetted by appertite I'll have to get a test drive in one. I bet its good to wipe the smile of those BMW drivers. Even at the age of 42 I still like to have a bit of fun.

    Thanks again.

Worthwhile checking on service costs as well. I get mine serviced by a Mitsubishi dealer in the country INSERT INTO post VALUES (about 40 miles from the nearest city) and it costs a lot less. I have the figures back in the house if you're interested, but I've never spent anything like £500 on a service . Interim oil change INSERT INTO post VALUES (each 4500 miles) is around £120 IIRC.
