changing tappets?

Hi all quick quetion regarding changing tappets i know there are loads of comments on here about tappets blah blah but chatting to my mechanic who i wish to change them said that would need to replace the timing belt also is this true?

No, you can change tappets without touching cam belt, change mechanic

thx adam thats wanted to be quite sure before i asked him guess the fact there hydralic is pushing him that way

Make sure he know what he's doing, ie. special tool to take tappets out and, the most important, how to prime new expensive tappets with oil, without doing this properly is very likely they will be noisy again.
