$70 - $100 will do it easy, I got 400 Amp Hour sealed unit.
Watch out for the terminal orientation. In conventional setup the neg is on wrong side and the earth connection is too short.
If your battery is in the boot or you've modded then forget what I said.
    Watch out, I've got a VR4 and a 4G61T and I'm not afraid to use them !

if you want a slightly longer reserve on the battery with out going to orbital/vortex/gel cel route try a boat battery, only slightly more expensive than a car one usually.

I have this a plan if the ICE install goes ahead. My only concern is that the terminals are tiny on the VR-4 so I figured I'd use m spare gold neg terminal and buy a battery with standard posts and a gold plated pos terminal to match.

As long as the battery fits in the tray the possibilites are much wider with this route.

A Bosch Gold from Super Cheap will do you well.. about the $100-120 mark and about 500CCA(my old one was about 520ish from memory) and are pretty good.

Ive only just upgraded to a yellow top optima as i got mine for a very good price..

Exide Excells seem to have a very good all round appeal. I use them cause they have a fancy handle for easy quick super fast removal and have a high CCA (anywhere up to 800 it says)

"This high technology battery will keep you late model, power-hungry vehicle performing at its peak.

The Excell is designed to match vehicle manufacturer specifications for most vehicles made after 1997.

It has advanced Calcium/Calcium plate contruction. This technology means your battery will provide superior starting power, handle high-accessory power demands and perform under the high temperatures generated in the confined engine compartments of a moden vehicle.

The Excell is maintenance-free. It is spill proof and has many other features and benefits."

just be carefull about going for the biggest you can get in the tray, as the bonnet on our cars slops down at the front quite a lot. i bought a big battery and it hit the bonnet right at the front and would have dented it if i had pushed the bonnet shut.
Thankfully the shop took it back and i got a small sized one but still hefty ampage. i had to order the battery as it has been said above the terminals are back to front, none standard. and they will not cross over, they will have to be extended.

    hope this helps Dave

That would have been a perfect time to relocate the battery to the boot.

Just a side question here. If you relocated the battery to the boot... what would you do with the extra space under the hood? Cold air box or something?

correct, it is an ideal plave for say on the vr4, you can run 2 pod filters into a cold airbox (need aftermarket ecu tho)

wow! So the MAP ECU lets you run 2 filters? Is this because it gets rid of the air flow meter?

yes, you can run one filter or 6, what ever suits you.

as my car wont have a MAF once its setup, ill be running a filter for each turbo.

It will be running from a Fuel Map instead. (progammed into the map ecu)

the car will have to be dyno tuned for this thou,
the auto learn function it has to learn your factory setup is not accurate enough to get it right... buts its a start.

you can fine tune the map yourself but then its alot of learning and you would need a wideband EGO to do it.

Or you can leave the gap to get your hands to the lights at bulb change time.

I know which one will be done though...

Yeah there isn't enough room for 2 filters there unless you go with really small filters or relocate the fuse box somewhere. I saw a jap VR-4 with a pair of TD05's that had the fuse box behind the strut tower on the same side of the car.

What if you used HKS style and cascaded them, rather than using big pointy K&N style filters. The HKS's are relatively shorter (but still wider I guess).

    excuse the crappy paint image

doesn't work! thats how the Jap TD-05 VR-4 was setup, and they needed to move the fuse box to do that.
