Actually comparing the auto to a manual from 0-60kmh versus 0-100kmh is quite funny, because:

The auto's have a very short first to get them off the line. 7000rpm in first is 59.7kmh, so you could argue you'd have to change into 2nd to get to 60kmh. Obviously you'd just put it into the redline for a short period of time. A manual is at 60.8kmh at 7000rpm, so a manual will do it without going into the redline.

However for second gear, the manuals are really short and the auto's are really long. The manual is at 96.3kmh at 7000rpm, and the auto is at 110kmh at 7000rpm. So the auto is better for 0-100kmh sprints, unless of course you want to take the car up to 7265rpm or so to make 100kmh without changing again.

Of course, that post doesn't matter because if you are making lots of power, the auto would blow up before you get into 2nd gear

/waits for the anger to come

So with a tip tranny, are people using manual mode to prevent a change happening just before 100 k (and if so what speed/revs are recommended for the 1st to 2nd change?)?

Sounds like I'd better cease and desist lauching if I don't want to kill my tranny though it sounds like you lose around 0.5 sec.

it depends on whether you're trying to get to 100 as quick as possible, or down the quarter. If you want to get down the 1/4 as quick as you can, just leave it in drive

^^^ What he said. The INVECS II system is pretty damn good at selecting optimal shift points if you open the taps from 0 km/h

So any ideas why my tippy VR4 is a second slower than the average (unless it is the dregs of the 91/95 mixture I had in the tank when I filled up on 98 - got 52 litres in topping off)?

Here is a link to my 0-100 time I just did. I know take off was crap but does that look about the right speed for a stock car with a big bore exhaust.

Cool clip - how did you manage to film that and change gears at the same time?

I just held my cell phone in my right hand and also used that hand to stear the car. Which left my left had free to change gear

It would help when fluids are changed before going on the dyno ive heard.
You dont really want to dyno a car that has done over 5000km with no oil change.

    Thats just what ive heard.

thats good advice, a dyno puts the engine under a lot of strain

Well I got it back but its got to go back again tomorrow as they said its reading inconsistent boost levels said the solenoid is sticking. So I dont know how that effects performance.
Anyway only reading he said as I was going out was it was doing 142kw at wheels on 9psi. I dont know how that compares but I though it would of been about 150-160. But the car has only had 1 tank of 98 run through it and I havent reset the ECU yet so maybe thats not helping as well

typically I've seen 150-165kw from stock cars. Probably something to do with boost, you need to get that sorted. At least you know what the problem is now.
