    Life after the VR-4

I know this is digging up an old discussion but I've decided on what I want to graduate to after VR-4.

I've wanted an E36 BMW M3 for many years but I've decided that the Mk IV Supra is just boss!

I was chatting to a guy who pulled into the parking lot at Foodtown, he asked me if I was interested in it... looked good in red, bit fat wheels and tyres and a massive FMIC.

He had taken the spoiler off though which made it look a bit naff.

Ok, I'm thinking affordable here Brad. Who knows what will happen in the next few years but in the meantime I have realistic aspirations otherwise I'd have said 997 GT-3!!!

Speaking of RS6 - one of our directors has an RS6 (C5)... I noticed a difference between his version and the one that was sold in SA.

The SA one I saw had cross drilled discs front and/or rear (can't remember) but his are solid. Not sure if it was an option or not.

According to a couple of sources I've been reading, cross-drilled are standard on the C5 front/rear.

either way - one hell of a road car.

i rekon Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo's or XR8's arnt bad, they were a good competitor for the VR4, the XR6 Turbo's have a bit of boogie, and heaps of aftermarket performance upgrades for them, they can make 400KW easy but that's if your willing to fork out the 10K...if i ever wrote my VR4 off i'd get into an XR6 Turbo, they look nice and go hard....pitty it's a hassle and a half to find them in manual though....as are most four door family sedans.

The ford V8 is a crap engine though, just ask Dave who does work on them.

The XR6 has a good engine, but the car is ugly and old now. If I had to have an aussie car, it'd be a high end commodore everytime.

I'm not really a fan of either marque TBH - although I did seen a XR6 pull away from the lights with intent and it peeled off impressively.

ps: If I had a held to my head I'd choose Holden

OMG!!! i'd choose Ford over holden any day, i dont think holden has anything over Ford and it'd be interesting to see what kind of power the new XR6 Turbo's due to be released this year will be putting out, i'm going to guess around 260/270KW which is enough to send most of the japanese cars packing, seems like the only car that stands a chance is the GTR which i think is about 350KW??

HSV Clubsport for me I'd say. Have long wanted a big displacement American V8. Also had a BMW E39 540i for a while, so had a taste for V8 power which I'd like o have again one day.

Nice!!! I have always liked the 540i's, was yours M or A/T? I certainly wouldn't mind one of those

There was also I believe, a double VANOS version which improved torque a bit more since the valve timing on both the intake and outlet camshafts are adjusted to the power required from the engine sensed from accelerator position and the engine speed I think it was?

Mine was an A/T one. It was a 1997. Don't think there was a double VANOS
V8 other than the S62 in the M5. Could be wrong though. My car was the 4.0L M60 V8 so not even single VANOS on that. Later E39 540i's got a 4.4L (M62) engine which did have single VANOS however.

brad - the boss engine isnt that bad.....i mean, you have 3 years of warrenty to fix the heap of **** for free

barra 6cyl is a ok engine, just guttless and use too much gas!

the turbo wersion is quick, but have valve spring issues (too soft) and have been known to do turbos.

and what does holden have that ford doesnt?? umm the fact that the ve isnt just a rehash of a 10yo car...

the new falcon is just a bloody facelift of the bf pretty much...which was a facelift of the BA...which uses the same boody shell as the AU..which shares parts with the EL/EF..... the designers at ford just dont earn there money!!

back to topic - id have a mazda3 mps or a new clubsport... or the hsv w427... or maybe the new GTS-R.....can you say supercharger....

au series 1 was a shocker... that grill...WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!?!?

if i had to buy a falcon it would be a auIII TS50 - they finally got it right, then went backwards with the BA

I didn't mind the AU Fairmont grill and headlight shape, but hate the rest of the car.

As for Holden performance, just buy any Gen III V8 and get a $10k twin turbo kit for it, immediate 300kw ATW

Couldn't you order even a base AU Forte with a 302 (5L) Windsor V8? That would have been cheap performance with a fine old school V8, with lots of lowend torque. Also I thought the waterfall grill was sort of all right, but anyway...
