VR-4 rear seats the same as V6?

Can anyone tell me if the rear seats in the VR-4 ('01 Galant Type S non-Recaro in my case) are physically the same as the V6? I'm hatching a cunning plan to jazz up the interior but it all hinges on the seats being common between models. Pics of my current seats attached.

Cheers Rees, sounds promising. I'm planning on replacing the front seats with a set from an FTO with a view to retriming the lot.

Don't forget the VR4 saloon seats are 'fixed' with built in head rests - whilst the V6 (and rest of the Galant range) are split seat 60:40 with detachable head rests.

Hmm, that messes up the plan then I'm looing at buying a pre-made leatherette cover for a GLS, if it doesn't fit the VR-4 rear seats then I need to get my thinking cap on.

Here's a photo of the inside of my V6 Elegance with the split seats and detachable headrests.

Hope it helps with your plan...

The seats have the same contours, AFAIK. So it may be possible to use the covers from another model? The only issue will be if the covers are for split seats but your seats aren't, I guess.

The plan (to keep costs down) was to to replace the front seats with seats from an FTO and leave the rears intact. I have a supplier who makes leatherette covers on demand for the FTO and the Galant GLS \Elegance so I was planning to mix and match covers.

The primary reason for replacing the fronts is to get seats with more support, standard FTO seats fulfil this purpose and they're cheap as chips second hand. In doing the swap, I wanted to keep the interior trim the same back and front for continuity purposes.

Beacuse the facelift VR-4 rear seats differ from the GLS\Elegance, this plan is unlikely to come together. As I see it, I can -

Source rear seats from a GLS\Elegence and retrim as per the original plan
Source a VR-4 Recaro interior (big bucks + rare)
Fit a set of front Recaro's from a Evo and tolerate the trim mismatch.

    Anyone got other ideas?

The third headrest in the picture above is a UK (European?) facelift thing.

Prefacelifts had a lap belt and no headrest, facelifts had a three point belt and a headrest.

    Hope that helps.
