Do you want a Hybrid?

I stumbled across this "your views" link whilst on the NZ Herald's website and here are some responses:


It'll be a cold day in hell before I drive a hybrid. No, on the contrary I want something with reclining leather seats that goes really fast and gets real low mileage. Y'know, something that makes a green party member cry themselves to sleep at night. <--- my personal fav.


Until hybrids come out in 4.0L six cylinder turbos I have very little interest in them. Petrol savings are definitely a bonus from these cars but you pay a higher initial capital investment and they are so very very ugly.


Do they actually benefit the environment? Life cycle costing would indicate that overall they are not more environmentally friendly than petrol cars, due to initial production and end disposal of the larger battery.


Sounds great but, is that a burden to recycle so many batteries?


No, but I'd like a 57 Chevy or a 68 Mustang or a 78 Camero or a 55 T-Bird. When cars were cars

These people are dinosaurs. They'll have to like or lump it when their gas guzzlers are banned by Labour and the Greens, just like old fashioned incandesant light bulbs, smacking, etc, etc!

Maybe so. Anyway, hybrids aren't so bad. The electric motors give them instant torque. In a race from 0 - 50km/h a Toyota Prius will likely be neck and neck with a VR-4.

OK I am exaggering about keeping up with a VR-4, but floor a prius and it will take off from the line rather smartly. You can certainly feel pushed back into your seat by the torque.

You guys won't be laughing at Prius drivers so much, the next time one dusts you at the lights! When the Japanese aftermarket tuners enter the hybrid market, I expect to see some serious mods coming available for the humble Prius - look out VR-4s!

I think Chevy make a huge suv with a tiny electric engine in it, it's still a hybrid!

Actually I do quite like the Lexus LS600h

Those LS400h are pretty nippy too, left my humble V6 for dead :~(
