    Short term oil fix

    Hey guys,

Bit of a newbie question, but need your help quite quickly on this one.

Just checked the oil level and I'm running quite low. It is due for a service now and have booked some time with Nick Mann services in two weeks time. Question is, can I top up with some Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 A3/B3. It will be for just two weeks until Mr Mann can fluid the car up properly. The car currently has Amsoil in, but like I say, it is quite low - below the low line!

Also, I seem to be going through coolant very quickly! topped to max line on Friday and a now just above low. Again, i'm topping with some Holts stuff and will get some proper stuff in the service. Any idea why Im going through coolant so quick?

Id be a bit concerned that your car is using oil and coolant.
Worst case scenario head gasket failure imminent. I'd have a good look round the engine and rads and check for leaks. Hopefully you've just got a coolant leak somewhere.
    No longer empty and frantic...

VR4s quite often spit the coolant out of the overflow, so the header tank is on the low side. Top it up and it just spits it out again!

I have oil here, so if you want to keep the engine oil amsoil pure, just drop round one evening for a quick top up!

Looked it over again after a little vigorous driving this afternoon, and the coolant had magically reappeared to the max line!!! Weird.

Will take you up on the top up oil sometime this week Nick.
