I think this thread should be flagged for a review / update, I feel the "stages" are outdated based on recent progressions (last 12 months or so) in tuning / modifications of our cars.

Infact, anyone object to me starting a new thread with more up-to-date information?

What has changed? Sure, we can flash the ECUs but that is hardly reason to start a new thread.

Personally I think that upgrades should be "staged" depending on what the objective is when modifying. In essence I think that they can be broken down into three/four simple categories:

    1. Go faster
    2. Stop faster
    3. Handle better
    4. Weight reduction

Each category would have its own various stages...

I agree with the concept. The reality of it is complexity. The idea behind this is a simple road map to let people know where they are or what they can do as basic, common upgrades.

Once you start sectioning it up and having stage 2 braking, stage 3 engine and what not, I feel the whole point which this thread was made for gets lost.

Once you have been around a fair bit, your understanding of it all changes too. At which point, I don't think you actually have any need for this thread.

4 isn't really stages, it's just tghings you do to remove stuff.
1 to 3 should realistically be done in step anyway. Why would you run a stage 4 engine with stage 1 brakes?

I'm also of the opinion that the stages should reflect an over all well balanced state of tune across all components, and that the complexity, cost, and commitment iovolved are what mark them as being a given stage, as well as their requirement to support other mods - eg you'd be mental to run a stage 4 power set up with stock brakes.
Believed to be the only PFL Legnum parked on my drive unless you know otherwise.

Not too far, until you go stage 4? Stick the biggest on there that you can get and use an EBC to control the subsequent drop in pressure. The alternative is to fit something smaller that will do for now, and then change it again when you go to stage 4.

I managed to get a 4" thick core in, but I had to modify the bumper and the steel slam panel underneath. I think you can get a 3" core in without out any serious fabrication. In either case the difficult bit is cutting silicon hoses to turn the corner so that you can pick up the stock hardpipes.

I have always believed that when you upgrade cars - Suspension, brakes, power - in that order.
We work to live, and to live is to drive a VR-4, around corners at speed. But it costs see here

Come on Shane, there are plenty top-of-the-line road cars putting-out some really good hp, but clearly you will see that time and resources were put into the braking set-up. I agree that if anyone is looking to go faster, they'd better have an air-tight stopping plan. The stock brake set-up in the EC5A is simply bad...you don't know this fact if you have not had the need to suddenly bring those 1,350kgs to a sudden halt! It's not funny, i tell you!!
Great thread going-on...puts some structure to the process. I have personally done mods here and there across the 6 stages, and i think these ideas will help me put it together good.

Thanks a bunch Brad. I'd like some more pointers for your 'Stage 6'. Could you recommend a source for the 'Forged Internals'...email would be good. Also i'm currently trying to source turbo upgrades fro Turbo-Kits.com. But they'd like me to confirm the part numbers on the stock 6A13 turbos...could you share these numbers, if you can? i don't have access to my car at the moment.

It has been proven on here that the standard brake set up is more than enough for fast road use. If your going to take it on track (sorry but true.) that most don't then better pads, disks.braided lines & brake fluid is more than enough for a couple of track sessions a year.
The mighty Leedsnum has gone but the Airtrek mods will soon fill this space

look for an exedy dealer, you can buy the 7203HD kit from then, otherwise, camskill.co.uk will sell you an OEM one i think.
