    Anyone been to Hong Kong?

I'm on my way there in a few hours en route to Johannesburg. We have 3 hours on the way there and 8 hours on the return leg.

I've looked up the HK airport website and had a look at transport facilities but was hoping someone here has already been and could point out a couple of things of interest?

    Thanks

Ryan - PM KHK - I think he knows the area.

Also, try MTL (Mendel the Bard. He's part of the HK Galant club but I'm not sure how often he comes on here anymore).

I lived in HK for seven years ......... but the new airport is miles away

EDIT: However Ryan, if you have time on the 8 hour return journey try and do the Peak Tram, Star Ferry and ...... umm, time to go back to airport!

there are lady boys in hong kong, hong kong caters for everyone. just because lady boys and bangkok go hand in hand doesnt mean thats the only place in the world you will find lady boys

also the streets are probably the cleanest you will ever see, and if you get really lucky you can find the cat bins, they are big green boxes on HK island mainly, where you can put your unwanted cats in

edit: also if you get change, it might be waht physcian mentioned, go up the mountain at night and get a look over HK at night, spectacular, especially if its not smoggy

OK, just did some checking and you can take the Express train to Hong Kong Central - then get a VERY short taxi ride to Peak Tram (taxis very cheap) - go up to top of Peak - fantastic view.

Train takes 30 minutes each way every 12 minutes so if u are there daytime it should work.

    Safe landings buddy ........

Not sure where you are talking about ..... Singapore streets are exceptionally clean whereas HK streets are fairly dirty. 'Lady boys' as you call them (Katoys BTW) don't exist in HK but do in Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.

Well, it really depends on what your needs/requirements are. Personally I had a wonderful time there with my wife and, at that time one child. I had a choice of living wherever I wanted in the Far East as I was setting up a business operation for a large European Company. In the end I chose HK after living in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore for roughly six months each - it was mid distance between Japan and Singapore (roughly) where I did considerable business and needed to travel regularly. It WAS also British and very tax efficient for me personally - I didn't pay any!!!

But HK is a 24 hour place to live - I eventually left totally knackered (as you can tell by the lines on my face!) - Go to a pub called Mad Dogs and you will find a small brass plaque with my name on as testament from the owner as to my having drunk the place dry many times!

I personally loved KL but Langkawi was a treat in iteslf, hired a car to tour the island and of course it was a proton 'lancer' in goldie brown they seem to love

and as for 'an moh' and devil mokeys they aint specific to Malaysia/HK/Singapore...whilst in Vietnam i was chased, bitten and chased again by Monkeys in Halong Bay. Running for the sea and my canoe thinking yeah mike you've made it, grab the canoe, run into the surf, leap on and paddle away....No one told me the f'#king monkeys could swim and were quite good at it. So that was the canoe abandoned! So now picture the scene, me treading water in about 20' deep water.....6' from me there were two monkeys perched on the prow of the bobbing canoe cleaning each other pretending to not look at me.......

Foook that for a game of soldiers...had to have back up tetanus jabs from mobile meds next day...three bigh scratch marks down my back where they first 'jumped' me!

So next time some one trys to sell you a canoeing trip around Monkey Island, do just that....go around it DONT get out

Very good pub - if you can put up with all the Ausies

HK..My Dad dragged us out there in the late 80's early 90's

Mad Dogs ( and Englishmen go out in the Midday Sun)

    and

    Ned Kellys Last Stand

were my favourite (underage) watering holes......(and they showed the footy with supper too!!)

In those days the Airport was the 'crap yourself flying between the appartment blocks' Kai Tak, rather than the new one on Lantau Island... they were just building the bridge and leveling the Island when I was there.

I was at school at King Edward V Grammar school - along with Chris Pattens Daughters.... we lived on the 'Peak' and the trip to school involved about a Mile and a half of air conditioned escalator
