New guy looking for a VR4

    Morning Guys,

Thought best to make use of work time and introduce myself on here, my names alan and basically i want to buy a Galant VR4, all my car history has been jap namely honda, four preludes few other bits and pieces and now currently drive an MB6 VTIS which is a nice car.

Was on the hunt for somthing a bit faster though and since i hate imprezzas but needed four doors the Vr4 really stands out.

Am on the look for one right now but im not overly familiar with the cars, are there any known faults to watch out for when looking at buying? other than then the normal things like knocks rattles smoky turbos etc. I will have about 3k to spend will this get me a good one?

Thanks in advance for any help

    Alan

    Hey!

If you have a wander around through some other newbie threads you'll see most ask the same questions. As a general rule they are very good as long as you service them well and use the right fluids.

Mornin' Alan and welcome to the club. You've come to the right place, the only place for the best advise. Are you looking for a manual or auto/tipo? Where abouts in the UK are you I'm sure a local member would be happy to show you a good example and talk over the pros and cons of ownership.

Thanks guys, ideally i would have liked a manual but normally i find they are more expensive than the auto's, saying that i have heard good things about the trip box and i would be happy with either providing the auto doesnt hinder the fun to much.

Im from carlisle so right up north where there never seem to be any good cars for sale, although i dont mind travelling for the right one, i stil need to sell my civic and astra to fund this but its 100% the car i want.

I was looking for somthing differnt and was considerin a toyota aristo but there not for me.

I have seen a few on piston heads yesterday they seem to have comedown alot since the buyers guide was written, im guessing credit crunch and fuel costs have forced that.

The buyers guilde is definately out of date as far as prices go.

The current price for cars can vary from as little as £1500 up to about £5000.

Buying expensive doesn't always mean buying better and you do need to have your wits about you when looking. In general the cars are reliable, as long as they are looked after, this means making sure that it has lots of service history, proof of cambelt changes etc.

Good luck with your search and give us a shout if you see something you like, we might know the car or its owner already. We might even have a member nearby who can look at it for you.

    Finally.....

'97 Manual Legnum in silver with some subtle mods

My first VR4 - '97 Legnum Dark Green & mean ...it was love at first sight - now sold

Thats great thanks for the invite might just do that,

I have found one that i really like i called to enquire about it tonight, I have decided to go for the legnum rather than the galant purley down to boot size, from what i understand performance differnce is indiffernt so to speak.

Its up for 2.5k with 71k on the clock body work is imaculate looking at it and it has 12mnths MOT and tax, plus its from a dealer so comes with warranty. Since all i know abours is pretty much honda biasedm#, i want a warranty just to cover my back a bit it has 6 months so hopefully that would be enought ime to show any cover ups.
