    Intercooler

Never quite sure about the quality on Ebay.

What do people think about the following? They seem quite cheap....

Your best bet is 1 of these:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Front-moun...1%7C240%3A1318

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-MEDIUM-Int...742.m153.l1262

    Which are the same intercooler..

The pipes with the EVO intercoolers will be pretty much usless..

And u would be better off getting a set like this:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=350176071950

    And Custom fitting(cutting) them yourself

    Like i will be doing

I have had 1 of these Intercoolers before and they are very good Espacially for the price

Infact they are better value now than ever ..

    Yep, good info Glenn!

Only one thing - the piping kit is 2.5" and the intercoolers have 3" inlet/outlets.

Thanks Kay, unfortunately if I do get one it needs to be in the next week.

Don't fancy the DHL postage on that....

You are Very Correct Mr Mann

And it is as my last setup was

I just used a 3" to 2 1/2" reducer elbow off each end of the FMIC

    Snot rocket science..

I know it's not! But if someone were to buy those bits and take it to someone else to be fitted, that someone else would need the reducers too.

I fitted the IC today, now I only need to find the right angled pipes.

Here's a picture, finding the right place for the IC:

Does this reducer not add a restriction to the inlet air quantity?

I'm not sure to be honest. But my best guess is that the reducer is not the smallest diameter pipe in the system and therefore is not any significant restriction. The smallest part of the pipework is the retriction in flow.

I'm also listening to better informed answers though!

You're right. How many has taken off the pipe from the turbo(s) and noticed the pipe diameter down there? Is it one inch or what? So I guess it really doesn't matter if you put some reducers there.

Hmmm... has anyone here fitted the GReddy (Spec-R) One from RHD??

Just wondering how much room is down there??

    The sizes of that are: H248 x L600 x W76

    And the ebay one is: H300 x L630 x W76

So is that extra room available at the front without having to cut into/relocate things?

I have 600x300x76 and it fits pretty fine. No matter how small your new IC is, you need to cut the power steering cooling pipes and move them somewhere else.

With 600x300x76 IC there may be some need to cut small pieces from bumper. I will add some pictures today or tomorrow.

Kieran fitted a VR4 specific item, although I can't remember which. It was a good nice fit with no issues IIRC, including a nice shiney pipe for the power steering cooler.

Hmm this is all quite interesting based on the fact that this item is about a tenth of the price!

What affects the quality of an intercooler? Based on the fact that this is a tenth of the price of and GReddy one. Is it expected to not be anywhere near as effective?

    The 600 x 300 x 76 fits with minimal cutting and relocating..
With a Fail Lift front Bumper no cutting at all ..

I am pretty sure that this is a question that the techno-geeks will love! My understanding is that you can get 2 different types of construction - tube and fin or bar and plate. If I have understood it properly, then bar and plate is the better design. Then it is a case of choosing the right size. Too big and it will take an age to pressurise the intercooler when the turbos come on song. Too small and there won't be enough cooling.

That is as technical as I can get at the moment, and I can't do that with any kind of conviction!
