Can anyone tell me what the tyre size is on a standard Legnum VR4? 17"
Can anyone tell me what the tyre size is on a standard Legnum VR4? 17"
16" with 225/55 or there abouts
Nick
There's no 'standard' for 17" as the VR-4 wasn't fitted with 17" from the factory!
But I suppose the answer you're after is 205/50/17 or 225/45/17 as they are closest to the original widths, and rolling radii.
HTH!

Stock is 205/55/16 or 225/50/16
The closest 17" size to this is 225/45/17 as elnevio said. Lots of us (including myself) run 235/45/17
try 215/45/17 these are real common and pretty much equal to factory 205/55/16
No they aren't.....215/45/17 are smaller than factory. 205/55/16 or 225/50/16 is about 1985mm rolling circumference. 215/45/17 is 1964mm so quite a bit smaller, especially considering that a VR-4 speedo reads optimistically anyway, you're just making it read even more optimistic, plus the wheel arches will look even bigger with the smaller tyres.
225/45/17 is 1992mm which is closer to stock (as a percentage), and it is a bit bigger than stock so will bring the speedo a little bit closer to accuracy.
your right about the sizes, but diameter wise your talking 6mm smaller on 215/45/17 and 3mm bigger on 225/45/17 so its stuff all either way, try this site:
http://www.tyresite.com/tyrecalc.asp
6mm or 3mm, it's stuff all then...
...but to maintain speedo 'accuracy', the 225 x 45 x 17 are preferable...
And then the issue of style, how it looks... a personal choice...
I'm on 235/45/17 and my Satnav and Road Angel both agree 99.9% with the speedo.
Yep, me too Mark. The radar things that tell you your speed are also spot on.
With 225/45/17 my speedo reads very slightly more than other references. I would imagine that 215/45/17 would read a fair chunk away from what the car is actually doing.
Personally, 235s for me. 225's are acceptable. I wouldn't buy 215s. (All being 45 profile and 17" wheel diameter, and assuming the wheel is wide enough!)
The tyre size and the look depend on the wheels you use. I have OE Evo7 alloys (8JJ17 +35 offset) and 215/45/17 tyres. Please see my gallery for pics.
I don't have problems with the clearance at the arches, even if I have a fully loaded boot. I don't even had to roll the arches...
