I've been browsing again, dangerous I know.
But might go have a look at this:

Any body got any experience of these?

Still here somewhere........
I'm allways having a look, 5 1/2 years with the same motor is an age for me.Originally Posted by miller

Love it, although the S Type wasn't the last word in build quality, but that engine is astonishingly quick.

Can the rest of the car keep up with though?Originally Posted by WildCards

Ah, who knows what will happen.
I've only been in 3.0 S Type, it seemed acceptable, a cut above a VR-4 anyway. I was passenger in an XKR with the same engine as the S Type R and it really did blow my mind away with it's straightline pace, they're heavy though and aren't built for B road blasting so don't expect it to set your world alight in the twisties.
They are definitely more of a high speed cruiser designed for motorways. Pity they are one of the ugliest cars ever.
If I'm replying to your thread and helping you out, it is because I like you and want to help out your VR-4 ownership. No other reason
I'd rather cruise around in one of these:

Indeed, that S8 is a heap better.
From what I read, the S type r has some horrible repair costs when things start to go wrong, seems build quality on them isn't great! Have a look at the XJ's instead, the X350 4.2 V8 sport can be picked up for 10k or so now, the one I drove felt just as quick as my VR4, looks the business and the interior is awesome
I am probably one of the few who like the nostalgic "S-Type" and the R would be one I would get. I am disappointed that it's build quality is lacking. I have always liked the old Mk II.

We work to live, and to live is to drive a VR-4, around corners at speed. But it costs see here
Isn't this the last shape that Jaguar made as Jaguar before Ford took over?
The Mark II is a nice looking car, but the S Type is an abomination. I'd prefer my Hyundai, at least people don't think you're trying if you have one of those.
Brad,
I just fell over and picked myself up to type this.....we agree on something!
Ford owned Jaguar since about 1991. I had one of the last of the 4 litre XJ6 sovereign's, best motorway mile eater ever...Originally Posted by Ryan

Shhhhht - according to Wiki they owned Jaguar since 1989! Sheeeesh, I didn't know it extended that far back.
I've heard the S Type described as a Mondeo with a Jag badge
why fix it the right way first time - when excessive swearing can occour when it all goes wrong when you don't?
Now with 5.7 liters of V8 muscle
Thats the X-Type, which uses the same platform as the mondeoOriginally Posted by gareth001

I can tell you from personal experience, they stand up pretty well to high speed MVA's, they also go extremely well, my other half owned a 2003 from new for nearly 7 years till the 23rd of November when I sent it to Jag heaven. (not my fault)
We had no problems with it whatsoever, but like everything, it really depends on how well they're looked after !!
