    Coilpacks GTO 6G72 V6 & Legnum 6A13 V6 the same?

Is the ignition system on the Mitsy GTO 6G72 v6 the same as the Legnum 6A13 v6?.
3 coilpacks on the front?, each shared between two cylinders?, wasted spark system?, any info appreciated, cheers

Yes, pretty much exactly the same setup. Different parts though I would think.

I thought the set up was the same also, BUT, I found an online 6G72 workshop manual which shows an ignition coil and six HT leads with no coilpacks ???

    Any more info appreciated.

The coil packs are number 5 in that picture. You'll see that there are three coil packs, each driving two spark plugs. The system is the same, but like I said, the parts are different.

AH!!, well done, very clever, I didn't look that close.
So, you reckon the actual wiring and way of creating the spark using a wasted spark is the same?,

Afaik they are 3 twin pack coils running in wasted spark mode , the evo 1,2,3 use the same type of coil as does the RVR

I'm pretty sure the wasted spark setup is the same. I wouldn't bet on the wiring (i.e. connectors etc) being the same though. I know the theory of both engines is largely the same (same style of Crank Angle Sensor and Cam Angle Sensor, same injection and ignition strategies etc).

Two coils running wasted spark is 4 cylinders, while 3 coils running wasted spark is 6 cylinders.

I'm pretty sure the 6a12 engines in the 7g galants use the same sort of coil pack too.

The 6a10 ran the same set up as well, 3 twin coil packs running 6 cylinders.

Louis, are you thinking of using GTO coil packs in the vr4?

My 6A12 ran the same set up as the gto, which uses thicker ht leads than the 6A13 and makes it easier for custom leads to be made.
You can use this setup on the 6A13 but will need to change the wiring and possibly the ecu, i don't know if the 8g runs a positive or negative coil.

Kayne, what's the 7g run? Negative or positive? And don't you have some of each coil type to compare the connectors?

I'm 99% sure the 7g runs Negative as it is the same as the evo 3.

Yes, but seeing as the 8G ones are over the plug coils and the 7G ones are twin prong coil packs, they would have different connectors. the 7G only used one plug and I'm sire that the 8G uses 3.
