just curious can it be done ?
just curious can it be done ?
Engine orientation is round the wrong way, it would be a massive undertaking. Cambelts for our engines are on the driver's side and with the 6g74 they are on the passenger's side.
It shouldn't actually be too hard if you have the gearbox and transfer case. The 7G's had the engine on the passenger side and they had the 6G73 2.5L in some versions. The 8G engine + gearbox + transfer case can fit into a 7G, a few people have done this now, and someone with a 7G has a 6G72TT and a 6 speed box from a GTO in it!
If I'm replying to your thread and helping you out, it is because I like you and want to help out your VR-4 ownership. No other reason
although this sounds like a fun idea, isnt the GTO unreliable? that reputation alone put me off them

i have always thought they were a stunning car. definately in my top 3 for looks alone. im not a great fan of sports cars but if i decided to get one then the GTO would be the one i would go for and that includes the 'if money was not an issue' dream list
i would have thought an evo enging would be a better choice
But that's then the v6 vs straight 4 argument! Why not add a v8 into the mix as well...Originally Posted by dinger1983

Now with 5.7 liters of V8 muscle
i always wondered what the outcome would be if an EVO6 engine was put in a VR4 and a VR4 engine was put in an EVO6. i have used the EVO6 due to both cars being the same age. i never understood why a 2.0 turbo is quicker than a 2.5 twin turbo other than the weight difference between the cars which share many of the same parts
there realy ait an argument there i would like there to be but there aint the evo is a more popular car so by default there are more parts more tuners more options more poteinal its a just the facts of it unfortunly the vr4 is lightyears behinde in trerms of tunningOriginally Posted by gareth001
True our v6 has little mods around compared to the EVO, but I was talking more generically with regards to the gains and drawbacks of straight 4's vs v6's vs v8's.Originally Posted by dinger1983
in that case you could debate for years s 4 , s6 ,v6 ,v8 rotary n/a ,tubo'd superchareged aaaahhhh could drive you mad thinking about all the fun possablitys
exactly - the way I see it though is have a straight 4's for most fun on B roads, v6 for fun on A and motorways, v8's for cruising... - after all they are the ultimate pub carpark head turner, any v8 muscle car!Originally Posted by dinger1983
I was pretty impressed with a supercharged V8 in a a TVR a few years back.
"Send lawyers, guns and money. The **** has hit the fan." - Warren Zevon (RIP)
that not true - my vr4 would be neck to neck with evos up to around the 170km/h mark and then the small turbos run out of puff. but then when we would both hit the speed limiter it was neck and neck againOriginally Posted by Scanny
have an evo also and the vr4 wouldnt have a chance from a dead stop to whatever speed.
is your vr4 std?
apart from exhaust and filter ya,and when evo had just same mods it would be well ahead,as for when evo is finished it will dance all over it lol
Is your VR-4 an auto?
