Hi, I'm new!

Hi all, I've seen a VR4 on the bay of dreams and have had some correspondence with the owner, he seems like a knowledgable chap and the car sounds like a really nice example. His asking price is a little out of my budget but I'm hoping he is willing to move a little as I can't really stretch any further.

I am currently driving a 2.3 litre 2003 VW Golf V5, I say I am currently driving it, the missus passed her driving test about 6 months ago and has pretty much taken over it so the VR4 will be a second car and my daily driver (work commute is less than 10 miles round trip).

When trying to obtain an insurance quote the registration number is not recognised, and to further complicate matters the only two VR4 models in the drop down list when I select Mitsubishi, 2001 & Galant are both imports. The car is advertised as a UK model (not an import)! Tried ringing up my current insurer and again they can't find the reg no and also can't find a non import VR4 on their system.

Best quote I could get (after selecting the VR4 import option) was around the £750 mark (I'm 29), was wondering if anyone could reccommend any insurers to try and get a better quote from / advise why there isn't a UK VR4 in the drop down list?

If I can sort out the insurance and the guy is willing to move on his asking price I will go up for a viewing, I'll check the FAQ's on here for the main things to look out for.

Technically, the 'UK' VR-4 is an import anyway, just that Mitsi imported some of it's own, sticking on the necessary bits to convert it, and giving owners a UK warranty.

Your best bet is to try a broker. Adrian Flux Insurance and Sky Insurance are both traders on here, and often beat anything else by miles. And they are generally modification-friendly too. If you are a paid-up member of the club, you also get a discount.

My car is a uk rallyart one and comes up as an import as well.
Sky insurance were best for me, £600 fully comp, (I'm 31 with full ncb, car parked on street with mods).

Mine is 2001 uk + is imsured as a ul car through adrian flux. Most companies didn't have the uk listed as a type s but flux were really helpful. As said above, become a full member for a discount + you will get more than your 20 quid back straight away. Good luck with the negotiating

Thanks for the quick replies gents, that is reassuring as I rang my current insurer after not being able to find the UK version on the internet quote and he said something about how they often only insure the import version and won't insure the UK version (which I don't believe for one second)...

I'll ring sky & Adrian Flux tomorrow see how I get on, I've emailed the owner back explaining my situation and am hoping (rather than expecting) he is willing to come down in price, if not I will continue to look for another clean example. I will definitely become a full member as soon as I become an owner, I was a full paid member of the NPOC forum when I had a Nissan Primera GT and the help and advice you get is priceless.

I've also looked into Stagea's and Legacy's but think the Legnum VR4 is by far the most superior of the three!

Already seems a fair price it's just a little more than I have unfortunately, may have to look for something a little older / higher mileage if he can't drop his price.

Try the insurance comparison sites as I got decent quotes from some of them...

But then I am a little older...

£396 tpft im 25 5ncb 1 claim and 3 points

Just renewed my annual policy with Admiral. ~£500 for a Galant VR4, including 25% increase on power, upgraded brakes, aftermarket exhaust, aftermarket alloys. Not bad I thought. Also got a good deal on the other car too as part of a multicar package. The best quote I have had by quite a margin.
Age 41 - West Mids - full NCB.

I was with them when I bought my vr4, they quoted me on it, but when I tried to takeup the policy they declined to cover me.

That is a bloody good price on a low mileage facelift with brembos and evo 9 wheels.
