Most VR4's are auto, it doesn't stop us!

Your tuning question all depends on what you are aiming to achieve. The answer could be anything from a free flowing exhaust and a manual boost controller to a full standalone ecu. Power gains are tricky to measure in numbers - low 300bhp is tricky to get past without spending thousands, but the area under the curve can increase dramatically without spending huge amounts, dropping 0-60 limes from over 6 seconds to under 5.

Those are the best starting points, yes. You may wish to consider a larger FMIC to cope with the increased charge temperatures associated with higher boost. An aftermarket transmission cooler would also not go amiss.

Pod filter is a cone type filter. The type of airflow meter mitsi run don't like them. Just fit a high flow panel filter

If you're looking to keep it a while and are tweaking the power, then a transmission cooler is highly recommended! If you fit it yourself, you can do it for under £100.

Make sure you run 98/99 RON petrol if upping the boost and use a proper fully-synthetic engine oil (made from ester base stocks, not a 'cracked' hydrocarbon one) - many on here a big advocates of Amsoil (either 0w-30 or 10w-30), although there are a few decent alternatives, e.g. Castrol EDGE, Silkolene Pro-S (this might be Fuchs Titan now, can't recall correctly!). Mitsi's spec for these is 5w-30 or 10w-30.
October 2023 fleet status: 100% operational

Welcome Rob! How much roughly would one be looking at for parts & labour for the aforementioned mods (i.e. how much each)? I think the aftermarket exhaust I have is in decent condition so Decat, manual boost controller, decent filter (got a cack cone one at the minute), transmission cooler? After Nick Mann sorted me out with a service & some great advice at the weekend (can't thank him enough, top fella) I have a few small jobs to get done but price permitting would definitely be interested in the above...
