    Hello Everyone

    Hello VR-4 owners

My name is Jim, I currently drive a Mazda 6 MPS, I'm the chairman of MPSOC. I've registered on here really to get some info on the VR-4. The MPS is a lovely car, but with the crippling road tax and running costs and a change in circumstances the only option to keep it was to get an LPG conversion done. I took the car in for an LPG conversion, only to find it couldn't be done after the garage having it for 3 days. Although it shares the same engine a a CX7, which they had done a conversion on the ECU was completely different so . I refuse to have diesel, as I don't like the way they drive, plus they sound awful. I've always like the VR-4, as they are fairly rare, somewhat understated and have a nice bit of power to play with. I can't see a reason why they can't be LPG converted so again they are on my list. I used to have a Galant years ago, it was a 1993 1.8 GLSi. Anyway off to do some reading.

    cheers
    Jim

    Welcome!

There are a few LPG converted VR-4s on here, so hopefully some experiences will be shared! Good luck!

It's no worse than any turbo Jap car on fuel, average is about 23mpg. At present the are no compatible LPG kits available for it. I've been 'told' that there will be one in 9 or so months, however, I simply can't afford to keep the car incase a kit does appear on the market.

You'll find the VR-4 is very similar in feel to the MPS, the engine is a bit smoother in the VR-4 though, especially at higher rpm. The VR-4 has the same AYC diff as an EVO, so if you have a good set of tyres (that aren't the stock 16's) you'll find the handling is a bit better. A Manual Galant VR-4 is about 80kg lighter than the MPS as well.
If I'm replying to your thread and helping you out, it is because I like you and want to help out your VR-4 ownership. No other reason

If you want to save money, especially over a MPS then i guess the VR4 is not where it's at! Chuck in a gas tank at the back and the handling and performance will surely suffer!

Jamil, how do you conclude that with LPG performance and handling may suffer, are there any reports from existing users of LPG on here or are you just making an assuption,I had a 4.2 Nissan Patrol converted to LPG and it made no difference to power on LPG

    lost.
You don't, lose much power, I used to run an S14a, I met another chap who had an LPG s14a, on unleaded his was pushing 350bhp, with the help of a 3071r, with the LPG he ran 346bhp, so not lost much. LPG being 65p/litre is quite a nice money saving exercise.

i think he means beacuse of an additional fuel tank in the back

Mostly assumption. I used to drive with 2 x 15" subs and 25kg of amplifiers and could tell the difference between an empty boot and not. Effect was more on handling than performance; that's with 250bhp on front wheel drive car, with lowered springs and stiffer shocks.

I like that logic. And it saves selling your soul to the Devil, or getting a charisma-sapping repmobile! Although they do have their place...
